Object hit me on the freeway

I was heading to work this afternoon and was cruising after putting on new wheels. I was behind a semi with a trailer but a lane to the left of it. All of a sudden a white square flys up and catches my eye. I figured it was card board, but noticed it was spinning like it was more dense. I finally realized it was something hard enough to do something to my car when it was headed towards me. I didn't jerk my wheel right because I thought a car was beside me and I didn't have enough time to turn around and check my blind spot. Also, if I had hit someone it would've been on me (i have one way insurance). So the damn thing went under my car (thankfully) and hit the bottom of my bumper then flew back out into the sky. I pulled over to check for damage and there was white paint scratches. Plus a small portion of the bottom of my bumper started to spider web. I'm sure I can remove the white paint surface scratches, and the damage is a lot less than i expected but damn..... I have a black car too so it would be more obvious. What a horrible week, one thing after another.....

I thought about final destination and the omen after the incident...hahah
The part in final destination with the logs on the freeway, and the part with the photographer in the omen.

My thrid car was a Saturn, It had one of those plastic flaps that they called an airdam. Either way, I stopped a little late in parking stall and nearly ripped it off.

(skipping ahead a few months)

I am flying down the freeway and it rips off my front end and hits the car behind me. I am late for an interview. This happens on a bridge so I do not pull oaver. I go the the nearest place that I can and the person keeps going.
I get out of it. Woot.

Good thing it was made out of plastic. If it were metal (impossible on saturns =)) i would've followed you.

I've heard of a rock flying through a windshield and hitting a woman in the face. She survived, but I bet she wishes she hadn't.

Shens? Or that rock had to be pretty large with enough speed (or car speed) to have such impact. Windshield is pretty tough and it doesn't shatter.

I saw a truck shell come off a pickup truck at freeway speeds once years ago. The thing lifted off like an airplane, rose up about 20' into the air when it "stalled" and then just crashed onto the freeway into a big pile of scrap wood and paneling.

Fvcking moron never attached it to his truck. Thankfully nobody hit it.

Some kids were throwing them off of an over-pass. 🙁

If it were my son I'd make him switch faces with her.

Don't feel bad. When things like that happen to me I don't care unless my car is really damaged, I just continue on.. don't really care about cars, they're just transportation. (though I respect that other people do care about cars a lot).

I would double check for more damage, just in case. Sounds like you made it out okay.
I once hit a whole wheel and tire sitting on the middle of the I-10 near Quartzsite. Going from AZ to CA. It twisted one of my Lakewood slapper bars and bent it backwards so it was dragging on the interstate. It took me and a tow truck driver an hour to pry it off. I thought I made it out okay, but weeks later during an oil change...I noticed my upper A-arm was cut by a groove. The groove was from my own wheel rubbing. Yeah, my suspension was really messed up. I had to rebuild the whole front suspension.

I wouldn't expect that damage from a metal plate.
But please do inspect your fuel, trans cooler, brake lines. Double check wiring harnesses for frays.
Also check the oil and if so equipped your transmission filter for dents.

A year or so ago a mudflap came off a city dump truck. Went through the windshield of an oncoming car and killed her.

When I bought my house, I was taking the old bathroom stuff to the dump in a friend's pickup. He said that he closed the tailgate, but he didn't. So, as we were going around a corner, a toilet fell out of the back. We stopped so that I could pick it up. About 10 people saw it and avoided it. Then an old-timer came along and ran into it, which busted his transmission cooler line. So, I told him that I would get him towed and pay for damages. Well, the tow-truck took three hours to get there, so they only charged me $20, and the guy's mechanic only charged me $18 to fix the line. So, the total bill was $40, which is not bad considering what could have happened.

gf's dad was hit by a friggin' paving stone yesterday. TOTALLED the front end of his Legacy GT (I quote "It's a damn good thing I wasn't driving the STi". I've been hit by a plywood sheet. Just kind of bounced off the windshield. Highway driving is DANGEROUS crap.

Doesn't have to be as big as you think. A fist size rock flying off an uncovered load is incredibly dangerous. I had one hit the windshield right where the rearview mirror is located. Major part hit the roof lining the windshield, so luckily the metal absorbed a tremendous amount of the energy -- the rest of the windshield below the roof was as bad as one could image. Fortunately, if it wasn't for the roof absorbing the impact, the rock would have gone clear through the windshield, into the interior. This is why whenever I see an uncovered rock load on the freeway I full throttle out of there without a care if any cops might be around.
