My sister is talking about setting up a free home Internet phone to work with Google Voice, like I set up years ago for my parents. For my parents, I used an Obihai OBI100.

I see that there are numerous models now, OBI200, OBI300, etc.

For a situation where a person just wants to hook up a single cordless phone for home 'landline' use, is there any reason to get a certain model?

Do the newer models, for example, offer better performance in some way? Many of them are about the same price.

Thanks!

The Obi models generally differ in how many VOIP providers you can configure (2 or 4), how many physical phones you can plug in, and whether they have a port for a real landline phone line (only the 110). The 200 is the best deal, and the 202 is the best.

If you are only going to setup GV and maybe another provider for E911, with a single phone connected, then any of them will work and you should just get the cheapest model. If you want to connect two phones (phone #2 will ring if a call comes in while phone #1 is in use), and you can maybe use the WAN functions of the 202, then get the 202.
