Obesity in the late 1800's early 1900's

With everyone having pretty much any choice of what they eat and less self control, Back in the day when choice wasnt really and option and you ate what you were given. Was there many obese people back in the late 1800's and early 1900's as there is in todays society?

I mean sure, back in egyptian days, if you were obese, you were considered wealthy because you could afford the food, but in our society today, its usually a sign of poor self control.

you already answered your own questions so whats the point. Of course there wasn't as many fat people back then than there is now.

was it acceptable though?

Well back then people liked the fat people, seeing it as a sign of richness. Now because MacDonald's and such have made it really cheap to get fattening foods.... they think its a lack of self control...

also remember back then people worked, and they worked hard.

So I wouldn't be surprised in the least if there was a low obesity rate then as a percentage of the total population.

working the farm and putting your own food on the table took lots of exercise (work)

If I remember correctly, less than 10% were obese, whereas today it's around 33%.

unbelievable

Yeah, it started rapidly increasing in the 1970s when consumption of junk food, fast food, and portion sizes increased. And some people will still tell you with a straight face that it's genetic, or that it's because people aren't running 5 miles a day. Look at the link above and see how few Japanese are obese. They aren't running marathons.
