For people that make excuses for obese people.(I'm not talking about overweight but fat/obese). Go to a country like Vietnam and find me 1 obese person. Its near damn impossible.

You're officially overweight and borderline obese. :colbert:

"officially" mean crap. If you saw me in person you'd never think that. Swim a mile three days a week (in less than 30 minutes) and use a gym grade Concept 2 rower three days a week for a half hour along with free weights. Its a wonder that flouncing flight attendant wasn't hitting on me.

What's your body fat percentage, because your BMI says that you're fat. :colbert:

You want to start a movement or something? People like you matter, too. Its worth fighting for.

Even if I thought it would amount to anything, the clusterfuck that is the airline industry is not really near the top of my list of important things to fix. Of course, if I was given a blank check to just get it fixed I wouldn't turn that down. I'm sure sorting it out would be an awful mess worse than I can imagine right now, but it would be rewarding when it's done.

tldr: nah, I'll just use bus/rail or drive with family on the rare occasion that I have to go somewhere far.

the point i was trying to make is if you're a fatty mcfatty who just ate 1800 calories before boarding a plane, i'm not gonna feel bad about talking shit about said fatty on the internet.

Well fair but I just think them chomping down 3 whoppers might be more notable.

Have no idea, but I can't "pinch an inch" and my waist is 36" length 38". No one has ever accused me of being fat. The only time I ever matched up with those ideal weight charts is when I was this height in my senior year of high school and weighed 175 lbs. I looked like a rack of bones. Some people are mesomorphic.

yes I've seen this at airports with my own eyes.

Hahaha.

It really bothers me. You can throw whatever excuse you want at me for it -- "They did this to themselves!" or "We're trying to help!" -- but the fact of the matter is that you're making a goddamn excuse to belittle other people. For some reason, treating someone like a sub-human is acceptable as long as their condition might be easily taken care of. Let's say that you have a weird accent or pronounce words strangely/incorrectly. Would you enjoy it if I made fun of you for that? I mean... you should know better than to pronounce words incorrectly regardless of where you're from. Keep in mind that I didn't state that I merely pointed it out; I would very blatantly deride you for it. I highly doubt that you'd find it fun... unless you're a masochist? :hmm:

What makes it all worse is that you do all this, and most of you damn well know that some of these people eat a lot because it's their comfort. Comfort from what? All the shit that life throws at them, which includes people treating them terribly. In other words, you openly treating a fat person like shit and them being aware of it only makes the situation worse for those people. So, if that's not clear enough, YOU AREN'T HELPING! It reminds me of a story that boogie2988 (a large YouTuber) told one time about how a good friend of his just started openly making fun of him for his weight (this being years ago), and that just made the situation worse.

For me, this doesn't just include weight. It bothers me when friends of mine "people watch" and openly mock people for stuff like their haircut or clothes. I do not care for people rude to people (regardless of whether they know it or not) for superficial reasons.

You seem to have a really hard time discerning between behaviors that people choose (stuffing their faces, never exercising, kicking babies, shooting heroin) vs behaviors that people have no control over (the color of their skin, their nation of origin, type 1 diabetes, etc.)

Since actual medical conditions account for about 1% of obesity (look at how many people were fat 100 years ago,) I'm of the opinion that you can either lose weight or hurry up and eat yourself to death in order to return that glut of calories you're hauling around back to the earth as fertilizer.

This is what it really comes down to.

Now, moving on, why is it assumed that fat people always smell? You're just as likely to meet a skinny person that smells as bad or worse ... but nope, on ATOT it's always the fat guy's fault. Obviously because they're fat they're incapable of taking a shower, right?

I'm a fat guy. I know it, it's pretty obvious, it's not like I'm capable of hiding it from the other passengers, so I buy an extra ticket when I fly. The theory is, condescending twats that maintain "OMG IT'S SO EASY TO BE SKINNY" won't have any excuse to throw their temper tantrums at me in public. But you know what? They do anyway. Because now I'm the guy with an open seat next to him when the plane is 100% sold out otherwise.

Be an asshat if you must, but you'd be about the 10,000th one and it accomplishes absolutely nothing. I hope that makes you feel special.

no one is saying that they're incapable. but by the time fatty mcfatty has gotten from his house to the airport he's probably broken out in a sweat multiple times. so by the time he gets to the plane (it's always a he), he smells like sweat / burgers / fries / shame. Not the most appealing thing to sit next to.

Good on you for buying 2 seats. Cheaper than first/biz that's for sure.

Keep in mind that there's nothing in my post to absolve people of all blame. Sure, some people have a harder time with losing weight (and I know people with the exact opposite problem with gaining weight), but it's still possible. However, what you're doing is trying to pass off a strawman argument as valid. You're deflecting by saying, "...but ...but ...look what they do!"

Funny thing is... I knew someone would go this route before I even made the post. Why do you think I wasn't dumb enough to post something about making fun of someone for their race, or sexual orientation? Oh wait... that's the sort of thing that you're suggesting that I'm doing. I brought up something that's a learned behavior (pronunciation). It's kind of like the other day when I pronounced plethora (pleh-thur-A) as pleh-THOR-a. Frankly, praise be to Thor, the God of Thunder! :p

What about other destructive habits? Do you think the same thing is true for people that drink too much/often, or people that smoke? For some reason, I tend to see people caring more about obesity than those two, and it baffles me. ...especially when you consider that smoking and eating are two different ways that some people use to handle stress. So, I'm genuinely curious.

tell me how my argument isn't valid. fatty mcfatties should be eating turkey burgers, drinking water, and having a side salad not doused in ranch.

im one of those fat guys that gets on the plane next to you. im 6'3" and about 300 lbs, but i can still fit in the seat belt just fine. i dont "spill over" the arm rests either, but i do fill the seat in. im fat, afterall. but my shoulders are at my neighbors forehead height, and wider than the seat backs. i have only felt bad one time, i always get a window seat so ican lean against the wall and give a bit more face room for the middle seat. this one time the guy sitting in the middle was about 5'7" and sitting between me and another guy that was easily 6'5" and built like a football lineman. he wasnt all bitchy about it tho, and both of us leaned as much as we could to give him a bit of room. i just wish i could put my feet all the way on the floor, the seats are so close together my knees are wedged up above the arm rests in front of my seat just so im not kneeing the person in the back. very uncomfy.

Wow, if you spent us much time pre-planning your meals and activity as you do your internet arguments, you could really make some progress with your weight!

King for a day? Cigarettes and motorcycles are banned. Alcohol is healthy in moderation. People pick on obesity more because it's easier to see, and more physically repulsive. Ask most people who they'd rather fuck, and I bet the order would go: alcoholic, smoker, fatty. Because you can get that taste out of your mouth, but you'll never scrub that shame off your soul.

Even if you're Vietnamese, you don't count.
I'm talking about people born and raise in VN.
I've been back to VN at least 10 times since 2008 and I have yet to encounter anyone remotely as fat people here in the US.
My whole point was toward people using medical reason as why people as OBESE. My answer is why I don't see those obese people in country like VN.
Let's be real here. Its all about your diet.

You didn't see people that fat 100 years ago here in America. People are saying it's genetics, medical conditions, but it's all crap. They're excuses made to absolve fatties of personal responsibility.

was in oahu and saw a fatty mcfatty eat a large shave ice. we're talking ice with artificially flavored sugar water topped with condensed milk, which is basically fat and sugar. worst part? dude had diabeetus ankles.

If everyone was lean the industry would just make the seats even more narrow. Don't believe for a minute that they wouldn't do it.

That's what I was saying. Fat people are doing us no favors, but the main problem with the airlines is the airlines.

To be rather clear, my point is that you don't need to be a dick to someone just because they're fat. I'm also not saying that you have to like their lifestyle! You also don't have to like if someone is smelly for whatever reason (sweat, cigarettes, etc.). Just... don't be a dick. Is it really that hard?

tell me how my argument isn't valid. fatty mcfatties should be eating turkey burgers, drinking water, and having a side salad not doused in ranch.

Because it's a straw man! I'm not talking about what they're doing. We already know that it's not helpful. What I'm doing is pointing out what effects the one that shames can have on the person. You're deflecting by arguing a completely different point.

Wow, if you spent us much time pre-planning your meals and activity as you do your internet arguments, you could really make some progress with your weight!

So, now you're resorting to ad hominem, and to top it off, it's full of assumptions.

Good lord... first straw mans and now ad hominem. How about we just go through the list and get some more while we're at it?
