my car inspection is due this March and check engine light came on. at the shop, the mechanic reset the check engine light and told me to drive 40miles. i drove 60 miles that day and he said it is still not ready.
what is he referring to?
i have the OBD2 bluetooth. and with the Torque Lite app, it doesnt say anything. which app would you recommend and what should i look for to know my car is "ready" for inspection again?

lol. Driving x amount of miles doesn't work. You need to perform the proper procedure for your car. For example this was the drive cycle for my RX-8, it worked after disconnecting the battery and only going 20 miles. The reason the battery was disconnected was because I got the car back from insurance, and they disconnected the battery while they had it in the shop.

What model is your car? A quick Google may lead to a much easier way.

this is the readout i got from Torque:

so i see im still not ready for inspection because of the catalyst and evaporative sys. :(
looking at the PDF you gave me, i would have to follow either page 12 or 13 correct? how would i know which page to follow? and what about the evaporative sys sensor?
thanks for the guidance cause im a dunce when it comes to automobiles.

your catalyst monitor hasn't set yet.

try this.

drive for 10 minutes at 90 kilometers an hour steady throttle do not gun it.

after ten minutes pull over hold your foot on the service brake for 5 minutes.

shut the car off wait a few minuted then do it again.

do you know the code that was erased?

was it p0420? perhaps p0442?

Also, when using Torque, if you scan for CEL codes even when none are showing, it will throw a "grey" code showing your car's emissions have not yet completed the test cycle. Once that code is gone, you're good to go.

I have to do this every time I get an emissions test as I have Hi-Flow cats and the car's rear o2 sensor doesn't like them, I guess they don't heat up as quickly as they should. I have a tune on my car that turns those 02 sensors off so I don't have to look at the CEL.

You may be OK. Some cars are allowed some "Not Ready" results....such as mine. I am allowed 1 Not Ready and still get a pass.
