I'm willing to bet that he has used the words "change" and "hope" more times than anyone in a campaign. Can that be considered an accomplishment?

Nope and I still voted for him. Does that make you angry? I hope so.

I have listened to what he says and I agree with enough of it. I don't live in Illinois and have no idea what he did there...nor do I really care.

whatever he did, it is much better than 28 years of Bush/Clinton.

If you don't know the bills, look them up.

That's not really too much to brag about. Disposing of a few weapons and creating a searchable internet database. Woo hoo. He's got my vote now.

Nice try.

that said, why didn't any of the lemmings in the videos supporting him mention these when they were asked? That Texas senator that Matthews interviewed was befuddled. perhaps someone should send him the obama wiki?

That is because he really hasn't done anything noteworthy. He is a gifted orator; all he has to do is say "change" and "hope" and he gets em all whipped up into a frenzy.

Ok, how about the lobbying/ethics reform?

Depending on your political view, S-2611 (McCain's Amnesty Act) was co-sponsored by Obama.

OP didn't ask for anything specific.

I'm not all that hyped on McCain either buddy. I do identify with him being a vet and all, but alot of his antics have me soured.

The fact of the matter is that Obama really hasn't done too much, but he hasn't been in the Senate for that long either to have a storied career. I'm just not going to be swayed either way by someone's ability to speak.

What was really funny was when Keith Olbermann asked Matthews right after to name a single accomplishment of the Senate in that same time frame and Matthews couldn't answer. Whoops! Does that mean the Senate has done nothing in that time (maybe... har har), in reality of course it doesn't.

Also, one other thing. While the list of positive things Obama has been a part of is certainly a bit thin, the number of BAD things McCain has been a part of are pretty damn long.

As I've always said, the Democrats are the party of no ideas... but the Republicans are the party of BAD ideas. I'll take the first any day.

poor straw man excuse, and Matthews explained why, and Olbermann didn't disagree with him(in other words, Olbermann agreed).

Can you do likewise for the other candidates?

Hillary voted for the war. That's one accomplishment.

You're problem isnt that you like him. You're problem is that he repeats the same mantra we hear every election...and you BELIEVE him.

I will be voting for him and I hope you hate that.

He has my vote! And it looks as though he has the support of a growing segment of the American Public.

But you Neo-cons know better than the rest of us right? :D

He was pull himself away from drugs during his 20s and become a civil rights attorney, win elections to the Illinois State Legislature, win a U.S. senate seat, and wage a president campaign so successful that it has knocked off the person who was the front runner for more than a year?

Topic Summary: Can you?

Can anyone here name an accomplishment of Obama's?

Can you at least wait till after he has been President for about a year?

Yeah people. Wait till he signes his first budget...which will be more than the last budget ;) Seeing how it hasnt decreased since 1934 I dont think Obama is the guy to break the mold

no, but I think us cynics know better when we hear the same empty promises election after election.

I'll probably end up voting for Obama in the end, despite voting for McCain in the NJ primary on super tuesday, but that doesn't mean that I don't have serious reservations about him... I can see why someone would support him, I just don't understand the hype and myth that people are buying into.

a spoonfull of sugar on a pile of crap doesn't make it any less full of shit :p though the American people obviously prefer his brand of BS over Hillary's and McCain's.

Ethics legislation
Healthcare reform in Illinois
Accurate and thoughtful voice of opposition prior to the Iraq war.. unfortunately his relatively low position at the time kept it from being effective.

If I ask a hobo if Hillary is the anti-Christ, and he says yes, does that make her the anti-Christ? This being used against Obama is ridiculous and Matthews should have at least mentioned one thing Obama had done (because he has done a few things) to give him a fair shake. Instead he attacks this guy, gets no answer, and ends it as if the story was 'Obama has accomplished nothing' instead of the real story which was an 'Obama supporter isn't knowledgable on what Obama had accomplished.'

I think these forums need a lesson on logical fallacies and poor debate tactics. My argument was not a straw man. A straw man is where you mischaracterize the argument of your opponent in order to make it easily defeatable. I did not do that. I merely mentioned that when placed in the same position Matthews was also at a loss for words. This would imply that when asked for specifics he wasn't much better off then those he was accusing.
