Obama's speech from Afghanistan

the usual soaring teleprompter rhetoric that will be forgotten in a few days..like all the rest of his readings.

Oh how I so miss the vocabulary of the Vietnam war, as it was sure thing when every poobah could safely say, I SEE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL.

Now that the phrase of seeing light at the end of the tunnel has fallen on ill repute, our poobahs have invented so many more ways to say we are winning when we are losing by default and incompetence.

But still, my all time favorite phrase was "peace with honor."

This is nothing like Vietnam, when the media and the left united with the Communists to defeat us. At least, it isn't now that Obama is in charge. Those who still oppose the war are reduced to saying stupid things like "The Taliban is more powerful than ever!" as though people are too stupid to know that the Taliban ruled Afghanistan until Bush allied with the Northern Alliance to throw them out. Hint: The ability to sneak back into a nation you recently ruled is a far cry from being more powerful than ever.

I haven't heard the speech - I find Obama's speeches almost painful to hear even though his voice is excellent - or seen a transcript, but this is in my opinion what he should have done from the start. Laud the military, which they richly deserve, for doing the hard work and allow people to remember that HE made the hard decisions. Good policy and good politics.

"We have traveled through more than a decade under the dark cloud of war. Yet here, in the pre-dawn darkness of Afghanistan, we can see the light of a new day on the horizon,"
-President Obama, May 02, 2012 channeling LBJ and the rest of the Vietnam hawks who cheerfully sent American troops off to die for nothing.
