Obama's new stimulus plan same as the old

Highlights quoted below.

President Barack Obama is promising some exciting coming attractions for his stimulus plan. But it turns out they're just summer reruns.
Obama faces souring public opinion over his handling of the economy, which has shed 1.6 million jobs since the stimulus was signed in February.
And for the first time, the administration admitted the economic forecasts it used to sell the stimulus were overly optimistic.
By this point, according to earlier White House economic models, the nation's unemployment rate should be on the decline. The forecasts White House advisers used to drum up support for the plan projected today's unemployment rate would be about 8 percent. Instead, it sits at 9.4 percent, the highest in more than 25 years.
Obama's disapproval rating on the economy has risen from 30 percent in February to 42 percent, according to a Gallup poll completed May 31.

Checks and balances are being restored. This is a good thing. The government should not be given carte blanche to do as they please.

Please try to spare us the drivel that the AP is a biased news source. Accountability is returning to our government and that accountability is being driven by the people. Oh, and that 'argument' that we have to give it time to work is getting old and tired too.

The administration is learning a lesson. It was inevitable. Hell, when Cheney is more popular that Pelosi, that should be a wake up call right there.

People are impatient. It takes more than a few months to recover from a Bush sized disaster. Obama and the Democrats will be in trouble in November 2010 if most Americans can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, though.

Maybe but when the alternative is even worse (the Republicans) the voter might be willing to bite the bullet.

Too true: many incumbent European parties have suffered in the recent elections as they have been blamed for the economic situation. People are short-sighted.

I never understood why anybody, even in his administration, believed those projections. Though knowing politicians they didnt believe them either as it was sold.

The stimulus bill was first not going to stimulate much at all. And what little it did, wasnt going to show up until the Summer of 2010.

They are obviously feeling some heat and know their political capital is starting to be used up. They are now trying to accelerate stimulus spending in a vane attempt to show some kind of favorable result.

Funny how you neglect to mention that those European parties that suffered in recent elections were all of the Socialist parties, and the people chose to elect more Conservative representatives. Isn't it...interesting that you left out that little fact? Agenda much?

Europe is moving more right, and we are moving more left. And now, more "stimulus". :disgust:

Funny how the O-team scared us into passing the "stimulus" bill, proclaiming doom and gloom that the US would not survive without it, and promising that unemployment would not top 8% if we passed the "stimulus" bill.

Oops, unemployment is at 9.4%, so of course, the O-team and his cronies are STILL blaming Bush for everything. Some people are fooled by this smooth talk (I could name a few suckers...), but most Americans are smart enough to realize when a president says one thing and the exact opposite happens, then that president is full of it.

Cue the "But Bush...!" and "Bush lied, people died!" in 3...2...1...

Some people will be so predictable.

Ah the left, deflect and dance, but never address the issue at hand.

Stop skirting the issue and address the topic at hand. Is that so hard? I mean, seriously, is the left actually capable of dealing with facts and directly addressing the issues?

Why do you assume that I am left-wing? I do not refer to myself as either left-wing or right-wing, but I dislike liars. Moreover, I would argue that there is no left-wing in the U.S., merely right and further right. If you wish to convince me that a President who has served just over 100 days is to be blamed for the current economic situation when Bush served two full terms of office, I will save you the time and energy.

Short sighted? Like when we pile trillions of dollars on our national debt in order to ease the pain of our present situation? No, that's not short sighted at all...

You're probably right. The Republicans have Palin and Jindal, two young earth creationist morons and a bunch of really old men. Not a single one appeals to moderates.

Don't celebrate yet. In Europe, a conservative is about where Dennis Kucinich is here. You're not going to see the Europeans trading their health insurance programs for our for-profit nightmare any time soon, nor are you going to see them invading countries without reason.

What's your solution? Tax cuts for the wealthy? Invade Iran? Abstinence education? The American people turned down Oldie/Fundie, remember?

So we should have done nothing and let the economy collapse?

Funny how the far-right had no problem piling a trillion dollars on the debt for the Iraq war. And unlike the stimulus, the Iraq war has no ROI at all.

Obama is euthanizing the economy. Debt can be 100% of GDP in 5 years and he's only just begun. He terrifies investors. He's a maniac who thinks US was too strong (like most Marxists).

What planet do you live on? How many millions of jobs have been lost and what how much has our economy contracted? I was for the initial bank bailout only to keep the credit markets from drying up. But the second boondoggle which is what Obama is finally taking heat on wasnt needed in the least. That was just an expansion of govt under the guise of stimulus. And then the ridiculous deficit spending. Christ, I thought we finally got rid of Bush in Nov. Only to find out he has a step brother who has to out do him.

That of course depends on if the economy turns around due to the natural cycle of our economy or because of the ridiculous spending. One thing for sure, that debate will be very partisan.

If it turns around in the next four years, Obama takes the credit, Dems stay/retake Congress, and Obama cruises through his next election, no matter whether the spending actually helped or hurt.

Obama has piled up deficits that are FIVE TIMES higher than Bush's worse deficits.

What is our great ROI on all this spending? The highest unemployment in 25 years?

I think the economy would have turned around either way. However, I think the downtime would have been a lot more painful for the middle and lower classes without the stimulus. We'll see.

BarrySotero is trying to say that Obama's stimulus will prevent a turn around all together. That's stupid.

Mr Obama has around six more months to show positive signs that the economy is turning around.
