Obama's new "on the ground" policy on deporting illegal immigrants

I think this excerpt sums up the content of the story pretty well:

In describing the initiatives, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson has echoed the language often used by advocates of comprehensive immigration reform, which remains stalled on Capitol Hill.

“We are making it clear that we should not expend our limited resources on deporting those who have been here for years, have committed no serious crimes, and have, in effect, become integrated members of our society,” Johnson said in a recent speech in Houston. He added, “These people are here, they live among us, and they are not going away.”

Since the new policies took effect in January, Johnson’s instructions have been conveyed to agents throughout the department. “We decided we’re going to draw a clear line between individuals who now have significant equities in the country versus those who are recent entrants,” said one department official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe internal deliberations.

“If people are not an enforcement priority,” the official said, “. . . bottom line, the secretary has said don’t go after them.”

Sanity reigns. Bravo.

But I feel that my life is being snuffed out by foreigners, taxes, and a lack of good paying jobs. I am a real American and I'm being bled to death by others. I can't compete and I'm the best at everything. I'm being cheated. I may move to Mexico.

Methinks Obama is hoping the Repub presidential candidates takes the bait and start throwing down screaming meanie hissy fits against this policy announcement, making themselves look like devil incarnates to that sizable voting demographic favoring immigration reform.

Common sense vs. ideologically induced insanity at its finest.

Nice play.

If they are actually paying taxes, being productive members of society and not out committing crimes I don't have as much of a problem with them staying. They need to get legal though. If they are not paying taxes and mooching off of too lax poor people plans, then gtfo.

Not one single job has ever been STOLEN from an American by an illegal immigrant, once you understand this you will realize where the problem and solution lies.

Problem: Xenophobia.

Solution: Give all Mexicans Permanent Residency so they're part of the United States. It's much easier to police the Guatemala and Belize border than it is to police all of the Mexican border.

In order for them to get legal they have to apply from within their home country and may have to pretend that they haven't been here illegally.

I'm fine with not deporting if here already but you should not ever be eligible for citizenship unless you immigrated legally.

Why not just annex Mexico and be done with it?

Works for me. Think how many American factories we would get back.

However, our plan to make Mexico part of the USA is diametrically opposed to their plan to make the USA part of Mexico. So far, Mexico is up.

really?

Do you feel the same way about free trade?

Because using your logic, not one single job was ever stolen from an American because of free trade.

if the unemployment rate stays lowish, then no, but they do cause wage dumping regardless of that.

Still, not enforcing the law for years means that you cannot just expel everybody now and call it a day.

A new immigration policy that actually works has to be designed, when that happens you also create a mass amnesty for illegals who have committed no crimes and have been in the US for years.

BUT creating an amnesty without changing the immigration policy first is stupid, as in 10 years it will be the same story all over again. And where does rule of law go if you let that happen?

The new policy can either allow easy immigration of low-skilled people from mexico, or be a total crackdown on illegal immigration (i.e. no services/welfare and immediate arrest and deportation if identified by the police), but it can't be what it is now.
Politicians should take a stand and defend it.

how is this new ground? Obama hasn't been deporting anyone lately.

You kill someone- do not deport. Rape - do not deport.

Its funny that pro-union pro-higher min wage liberals, are also the biggest supporters of unlimited illegal immigration.

That whole façade that the liberals work for the middle class truly crumbles when their immigration policy is presented.

The flag would require to be updated to 81 stars. Our GOP members in congress would just scream against adding to the national debt for requiring a new flag to render the annexation idea moot.

Mexico city is literally sinking into its own shit. Do you want to pay for that? oh hell no. :awe:

we've solved problems like this before: Chicago diverted their river and sent all of the filth down to St Louis, where it belongs!

...though I think I like this idea of absorbing Mexico and having a much, much smaller southern border...but then the massively uncontrollable additional coast line.

Some butthurt DEA agents losing the marijuana battle here could be re-tasked with FBI, CIA, and military special forces to directly and rather effectively deal with the Mexican Narco problem.

Funny you should say that ...

Man arrested in with San Francisco killing had been deported several times

In this case several = 5.
The man arrested in connection with the seemingly random killing of a woman who was out for a stroll with her father along the San Francisco waterfront is an illegal immigrant who previously had been deported five times, federal immigration officials say.

Further, Immigration and Customs Enforcement says San Francisco had him in their custody earlier this year but failed to notify ICE when he was released.

"DHS records indicate ICE lodged an immigration detainer on the subject at that time, requesting notification prior to his release so ICE officers could make arrangements to take custody. The detainer was not honored," ICE said in a statement Friday afternoon.

Kathryn Steinle was killed Wednesday evening at Pier 14 -- one of the busiest tourist destinations in the city.

Police said Thursday they arrested Francisco Sanchez in the shooting an hour after it occurred.
Why do you guys continue to believe what is nothing more than lip service from this administration?

Why do so many US citizens hate low income US citizens so much... :(

GOP/ Fox News Propaganda: Turn the middle class against themselves and trick them into thinking the lower middle class and poor are out to steal from them.

Well, they are stealing from them when they're sucking down those sweet social services that are paid for with tax revenues (or money printed out of thing air). What I was referencing though was all these folks that have a White Guilt and/or Bleeding Heart complex jizzing themselves at beloved illegals getting in...

...who are going to then directly compete with lower income US citizens.

I can't imagine why they are so willing to let non-US citizens into the US to suppress wages and take jobs from low income US citizens who already need all the help they can get. I know that slave labor is addictive but dayam you'd think you'd at least care about your own citizens first...I guess not... :(

Or we could do what the great Republican Ronald Reagan did, simply legalize millions of illegals, now they are great Americans! Problem solved.
See how easy it is to solve problems when you are a simpleton, I mean Republican.
