He's a man who needed secret service protection sooner than any other candidate running for president due to the death threats he receives so frequently. Think his kids might be a bit safer in a small, secure school? You crucify a man for looking out for his two most important people in the world.

I dont believe the issue here is spending the money how they want. I know for a fact if I had money like him, my kids would go to a private school as well. It is the idea that he is in bed with the teachers union which is against the idea of a voucher system where the money allocated for a student stays with the student and not the district. Meaning poor to middle class families are stuck with what the state tells them.

So while he is out bobbing with the Union and helping to keep people(usually poor to middle class) from having a choice of school. He is easily excercising his right to send his children to a school not mandated by the state. For being a champion of the poor on this issue he is clearly not helping them.

Vouchers are coupons, not free tickets. You get $3500 towards the tuition of your choice. But that money comes out of funds that would go to public schools. The majority of middle-class and nearly entire lower-class would not be able to send their kids to a private school even with the voucher. So their kids are now still going to a public school, only the public school has even less funds than it did before.

He IS helping the poor by preventing the pillaging of public school funds in the form of vouchers that go towards families already paying for private school.

Buzzzz. Fail

A lie and a troll do not mix ...

Ronald Reagan with the Tax Reform Act of 1986 greatly expanded the AMT because his 'Voodoo Economics' nearly bankrupted the USA in the early 1980's.

Actually, Clinton further expanded it in 1993, then vetoed a repeal in 1999.

Not at all. Good for him; its a shame he's trying to increase taxes on the 'rich' and deny others the same opportunity to earn the income to send our kids to a similar school.

Exactly how much more is someone making over $250,000 going to be taxed under Obama that you think they would go from being able to afford a $20,000/yr tuition to not being able to afford it? And how many people do you think that group (that would go from being able to afford it to not being able to afford it) represents?

Families making $75k are paying Clinton's AMT in my state. And lets not forget Obama's capital gains and dividend taxes.

Funny, I didn't see an answer to my question...

Your question is based on a false premise, namely, that only people making > $250k are going to be taxed higher under Obama than McCain.

I've heard that story before.

BTW that evil Palin sends her kids to the local public school. Shame on her for neglecting her kids education.

Thats an absurd statement. Listen to yourself.

Does it always have to be right vs wrong black vs white with you right wing winguts? That is not hypocracy at all.

Just because he can afford a private school doesn't mean he is denying anyone any rights. What kid of logic is that? He can afford it thats great.

That makes more sense. If he's against a voucher system (I am all for something that is a sink-or-swim to public schools, they are utterly fvcking absurd, especially in my area considering how much I pay for them whether I want to use them or not), the tacic ancillary to that is that he doesn't see much of a need for improvement, which clearly he does if he's sending his kids to a private school. Iwould love to see more competition in the schools in my area. Kids get well over 10k/head and in the city proper they are graduating highschool at a rate of 39%. Clearly the money is being thrown in the toilet on them.

From what I can glean from the McCain-Palin web site, McCain is only for vouchers in the D.C. school system.

In comparison to Senator Barack Obama's education plan, Senator John McCain's is downright terse.

Among his short list of initiatives, Mr. McCain, the Republican presidential nominee, includes bonus pay for teachers who raise student achievement or who take jobs in hard-to-staff schools, an expansion of after-school tutoring, and new federal support for online schools and for the voucher program in Washington, D.C.

The brevity of Mr. McCain's plan reflects his view that the federal government should play a limited role in public education, and his commitment to holding the line on education spending, said Lisa Graham Keegan, a McCain adviser and former Arizona education commissioner. . . . adding that his plan's limited scope should not be interpreted as a lack of commitment to education and school reform. "He's been a quiet and consistent supporter of parents and educators who he thinks are making a difference."

http://www.johnmccain.com/Info...4c04-a2e2-d01e3d4a9345

It doesn't appear that McCain is proposing any sort of nationwide school voucher program.

How about we both try again, and this time you address the issues.

If the problem was primarily due to the unions, then why are there are there problems in my state? We don't have a teacher union here....

And this 'association' has much less power than a lot of the unions across the country. When was the last time the association went on strike to improve pay or benefits?

LOL @ calling the North Carolina Association of Educators a union

Perhaps you will explain to all those at P&N the nefarious union activities conducted by the NCAE?

You Fail

North Carolina's 'plan' for teacher's salaries:

With your college degree we will hire you this year at a starting pay of $29,750. After 25 years of service, a national teaching certificate and a graduate degree, under our highest possible salary schedule-M (if you qualify) we will pay you $57,810

Objectives

1. Increase public confidence in and support for public education.
2. Advocate quality teaching and learning for all students and public school staff.
3. Strengthen the economic and legal status of members.
4. Unite and represent all prospective, active and retired public school employees as members of NCAE.
5. Foster a governance system that expands member involvement, enhances leadership, and responds to the needs of members.

6. Manage the operations and resources of the association to provide efficient delivery of services.

Sounds like a union to me. With the way they own Bev Perdue they are acting like one too. Probably looking to raise those wages.

Edit: Looks like she already got them raised to 21st highest in the nation, I wouldn't whine too much.

OP, did you miss the speeches where Obama has said that he wants to introduce accountability requirements for pay raises?

McCains support educational vouchers so poor parents can send their kids to private schools/better schools.

Pure hogwash. Anybody who thinks that a $3000 voucher will let poor families send their kids to $20,000 private schools is delusional.

Vouchers merely subsidize those who can already afford private schools while gutting funding for public schools in the process...

Why yes, the children of a presidential candidate ride in a motorcade, how surprising. Do you need this explained to you? Or is it possible you could figure it out on your own.
