I can't believe how many conservatives are on here. When I religion poll pops up, there is a majority of atheists and agnostics. Yet, the majority also isn't left leaning.

You can't be atheist and right wing at the same time. It's impossible. Either people are purposefully trolling or the majority of AT is bipolar.

...or rich as hell.

Nope, not one bit, another politician got elected to be President of the US. What's so great about it? Do tell.

Don't you know? What matters is the color of his skin, not the content of his character.

blah. not worth it

What is better is the blantant foaming of the mouth at anyone who dislike what OBama stands for. I can count at leats 5 posters who 95% of there threads involve Obama attacks, and people who go off on "why do you guys worship him blah blah blah blah"

Want to know why? Because for an entire generations/two generations of individuals he is really the first politician that made people care about the future, themselves and what is actually happening. They grew up in a world where they kept being told people hated America and Obama promised to change that. Right or wrongly it motivates people especially the young. So incase you really were ignorant there is a very simple explanation for you.

Just taking a devil's advocate standpoint, why not? You can have very conservative values that are totally atheist.

Yes, but generally it is looked down upon by their fellow conservatives. It's like wearing an American flag suit in Iran. Or being gay in Texas. Or teaching creationism in science class in a San Francisco jr high.

That depends entirely on the next four to eight years. Whether he is a great president. worthy of a monument is up to him. He'll be in the history books for being first, of course, but great? We'll soon see.

Yeah. It will take several years, maybe even a generation for the significance of his presidency to be realized, and for what can certainly--though also may not--become a great inauguration address.

Most inaugural addresses are pretty crappy anyway; history only remembers a handful of them, but many seem to think that far more are significant than really were. The last "great" one would be Kennedy's, and the most recently significant one before that would be William Henry Harrison's--but only because it was the longest one ever at 2 and a half hours, and because it was his hubris at insisting he deliver it without coat and hat in the freezing rain that directly caused his pneumonia and death 30 days later. The address, itself, was extremely boring as it focused on humdrum policy and meaningless banter. The language was decidedly un-floral.

We already know that Obama is a great speech writer--his 04 address at the DNC and his speech concerning the state of racism in America last year (response to Rev Wright) will be remembered by history, no doubt about that. This is something we haven't seen in an American president for some time, so I'd say there is a pretty high chance that this inaugural address will be great, and will become significant.

A lot of that depends on his presidency, of course. No one wants to remembered only by what they said their first day on the job....

Shh this is a "circle jerk on the fact people like Obama and I'm bitter at politics in general" fest..don't interrupt it, it's fascinating.

Anyway, I would have voted for the first and third options if I could. I voted for the first one though, simply because there is a pretty high chance that it will be significant.

Why aren't you a shining beacon of intelligence and tolerance. Anyone who has a differing view from yours should be banned from the Internet? I assume you will be volunteering for the Obama Brown Shirts intimidation mob, correct?

If Lincoln was here he would punch you right in your face.

If you don't think this is one of the most significant events in US history then your are either in denial or are completely delusional.

Threatening violence? LOL

Closed minded? Check. Violent? Check. Able to be brain washed? Check. Yeah, you're a great candidate for the Obama Brown Shirts.

But you said it was impossible. That doesnt make sense at all. You can still be a republican that supposedly wants smaller government, traditional values, tough foreign policy stance withouth believing in a God. Who cares if other conservatives somehow look down on you, it's just you in the voting booth.

please be quiet. You make us Democrats look pathetic.

Lincoln would do no such thing, by the way. He had an extremely combative cabinet. He was one to endorse and pull from a table of differing opinions, unlike you.

Also, don't forget that he was a "Republican."

Those religious fundamentalists represent an extremely polarizing wing of the right-wing party, not the historic platform of their ideals. kind of like how you seem to represent a polarizing fringe group of left-wingers.

Or he is the first politician they have met who they met besides Bush and Clinton? A good chunk of votes for Obama came from people who would barely remember Clinton, except maybe the scandal and grew up with Bush and now have Obama. Are you really that ignorant not to be able to put this together? I'm sure if you took one philosophy class ever this would seem very simple to you.
