Here's YOUR problem:

Published November 04, 2010
| FoxNews.com |

White House spokesman Tommy Vietor shot down the $200 million-a-day figure -- to put the outrageous sum in context, that's 5 million times Rachael Ray's recommended $40 a day.
"The numbers reported in this article have no basis in reality. Due to security concerns, we are unable to outline details associated with security procedures and costs, but it's safe to say these numbers are wildly inflated," Vietor said.
Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell also outright rejected the claim that 34 warships would patrol the Mumbai coast while Obama is in town.
"I think there has been a lot of creative writing that's been done on this trip over the last few days," he said. "We obviously have some support role for presidential travel ... but I will take the liberty this time of dismissing as absolutely absurd, this notion that somehow we are deploying 10 percent of the Navy, some 34 ships and an aircraft carrier in support of the president's trip to Asia -- that's just comical.

A military official also told Fox News the warship claim was inaccurate. The official knew of no such plans and said, besides, a carrier strike group typically has 10-12 ships at most.

So Fox reports the facts (that the initial figures are now debunked) as they are unravelled, and some how Fox news is dishonest about it? WTF?

Hmm let me think....

If the majority of Republicans don't trust Obama, do you think they trust Obama's people refuting something?

No it said:

"The Obama administration has pushed back"

"White House spokesman Tommy Vietor shot down"

"Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell also outright rejected"

Which to the vocal watchers of Fox News is like the Germans saying that Nazi's never killed any jews.

THIS IS VERY CLEAR in the comments section of the same article.

What it didn't do is OUT RIGHT say that the source of this information wasn't substantiated in ANYWAY.

Oh and dont forget this from the article:

A military official also told Fox News the warship claim was inaccurate. The official knew of no such plans and said, besides, a carrier strike group typically has 10-12 ships at most.

So Fox went directly to the military for the facts, and published them. Whats the problem?

I think I have made it pretty clear, look no further than the comments on said article to see why its a problem.

While you think, I will think too.

Hmmm. The majority of the left doesnt trust Fox news. Do I think they would trust them when they actually DO report the facts?

I doubt it. Fox is your favorite whipping boy.

Actually not true, I actually enjoyed the interview they had with the potential new speaker of the house. I thought that was a very fair interview.

You obviously didn't look at that clip. Try again. Note all the Fox News talking heads making the same bogus claim. And all the tea-bagging politicians running with same claims from the said FNTHs.

So its ok for them to blow out unsubstantiated rumours out of their collective asses. Find out they were caught and put it in small print on a non-descript website?

That's journalism for ya

Wallace's interview with Fiorina was very good this week, Shep holds it down fairly as well. Where is the real retraction? why hasnt each show that ran with the story offered a fair retraction?

I didnt say *all* ;)

The problem, I think, is because Fox is the largest of the conservative slanted news channels, people automatically link crazy assed right wingers (and there are plenty) with Fox. The other problem, as illustrated in this thread and the Rachel Maddow clip, is people confuse the opinion shows with Fox news. This is mistake. This would be no different than judging CNN based on Nancy Grace or Jane Valez -Mitchell (crazy ass left wingers). Theyre opinion shows, not news.

Its kind of hard for people to differentiate that when its on a "News" network right? I mean that for all of those stations. The problem is its effecting elections because people aren't noticing the difference. Why did the conservative radio hosts (Beck, Savage and Rush), quite a few Fox "Talking Heads" AND a congress woman mak comments today on this as if it was FACT? What good are words from Obama's people to refute this overwhelming evidence that is only stated contradiction and only in an article on their website?

The White House has got to start playing hardball with these assholes.

Whenever stories are spread based on nonsense they need to start calling out names. The more it happens the more Fox News is discredited.

Because people of all politcal leanings are naive and emotional. I brought up 2 opinion shows on CNN as an example...the only show I can think of that comes close to emotional rhetoric as those two are Beck...but I havent watched much of him so I cant comment more than that. There are plenty of other examples. Fox certainly doesnt have the market on opinion shows on what was once a news channel. But Fox news itself isnt much different than the other major news channels.

Gibbs tried that twice in the last few months and FOX ran him in their ads.....

People will not believe anyone outside of fox news saying it themselves. They will pass it off as Lamestream media lies....

we are in a new age of propaganda....Eisenstein would be proud...

The only show I am familiar with is Nancy Grace, I hate that women but I really wouldn't even begin to compare her any political opinion show like Oberman or Maddow. Her topics are often about court cases or things in the public eye such as Lindsay Lohan rather than anything political in the sense of Republican or Democrat.

You have to pick the right battle. This would be a good one since the info in story was completely made up.

If you were referring to the Shirley Sherrod incident there is an inherent problem in saying Fox News was going to run with a story that hadn't aired yet. Too easy to "refudiate" w/o proof.

We're not talking about opinions on Fox news, we're talking about the lies they eagerly propagate.

The same video again? Each one of those are opinion shows on Fox (with exception of Rush). If you care to, if you have the time to, read back a page or two, you will see the story published by Fox news which states the $200 million figure is false.

Edit: Here. I wouldnt want to strain you: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/201...ning-epic-reputation-ahead-obama-india-visit/

Only after the same network hosted several of their regulars saying over and over and over again, NOT THEIR OPINION, but that this was fact.

Please stop with the "opinion" dodge.

It's not about anyone's opinion, it's about Fox eagerly propagating false, unverified and easily disproven bullshit as facts.

Got that?

Kudos to Anderson Cooper on CNN for showing the lies of Fox, Rush, Beck, Savage, Hannity, all the Republican America haters.

Have to admit this game has gotten old. Let's report something that's blatantly wrong to create a media and public frenzy to get attention only to let everyone know the details were false after the damage is done.

Maybe we should be asking ourselves why are we allowing the media to make fools of us and get away with it? It doesn't matter if you are a conservative, liberal or moderate we have been taken advantage of by lowlife scum who feed on our fears.
