Obama's expensive India trip...

This is an Indian source and i am not sure they did not get rupees and dollars mixed up. I have heard the figure of 40 airplanes and 3000 people thrown out there. The source supposedly comes from someone privy to the arrangements of those 3000 people.

$200,000,000 per day? Renting the Taj Mahal hotel's 512 rooms will run at least $185,000... factor in the rest of the people you are looking at at least half a million per day, maybe another $200,000 to feed everyone. I am sure we will be reimbursing the Indian government for daily security at at least $1,000,000/day. At any rate that leaves about $198,000,000 per day in other expenses.

Anyone have any other sources? I would hate to think we are stimulating India's economy that much.

WTF? Whats this visit for? Is it a diplomatic visit? Why can't we fly the guys to the white house? Save half a billion or so, lol.

Article doesn't seem right. Isn't shit cheap in India? CIA factbook says it's about twice as poor as China, about 5x as poor as Mexico. If you thought everything in Mexico was cheap and products made in China were cheap, you should see what India is like 😀

That's actually not a bad idea to just fly their people here. They probably have a smaller group to haul around.

They must have the currency mixed up, there's no way you're spending $200 million on the entire trip, forget about daily. It's probably more like $2 million per day wasted, not $200 million.

I don't think its a mix up. I heard this exact figure on a radio show yesterday, I didn't see anything on the news though. They are completely renting out a very expensive hotel. Bringing 3000 people there. Crazy.

200,000,000 rupees is about $4.5 mil... so that has to be it. Unless michelle obama is going... then the figure is reasonable. 😉

5-star accommodations are still top dollar. Less then say a stay in New York for sure... but still not cheap as one would expect.

Here's one from DNA but still haven't seen anything outside of India confirming the $$. I would hope that he's not going to blow $2B on a 10 day trip.

I'd like to know how the source knows the cost of Obama's trip anyway. Did he call up and say "I want you to know how much you peasants are costing me?"

"The huge amount of around $200 million would be spent on security, stay and other aspects of the presidential visit," a top official of the Maharashtra government privy to the arrangements for the high-profile visit said.
..

Obama needs to have his travel budget slashed. Maybe then he'll actualluy stay in DC for mor than a week or two at a time and do some work for a change.

I suspect they are lumping in all the press that will accompany, for 3000 people is ridiculously high otherwise. Obviously the taxpayers don't pay those costs. I strongly suspect theyhave the form of money mixed up as well.

Another A+ thread, professor.

if highland is correct, then the guy from Indian govt is saying that much money is being spent on security and stuff, nobody says its paid by the US govt

Outrage? People are saying the numbers can't be right.

You think the OP took that into consideration before posting it. Instead of saying something when credible facts came into the picture, he just posted it for the outrage. Not including that 6 posts also support the outage....

Outrage if it's true, for sure. I just hope it's not.
