Blech, his bi-partisanship moves only seem to create more separation from the parties. I'm definitely not blaming Obama on this, but the parties act like children.

^ This.

How are they like children? This is the nature of party politics. You can play or you can not have power. Not having power is not 'childish'?

Or is it more childish to try to insist on a grade school civics book about idealism where the politicians are all about waving the flag and 'above this sort of thing', naively?

That sounds the more childish.

It's weird that plenty of others in the thread understood my words and even agreed with them, yet you have trouble interpreting them. Could this possibly be because you hold a pre-judged bias against me as a user on these forums? This is like the third thread today where I've posted a fairly light opinion and you've attempted to dissect it.

I dunno, but if Obama doesnt govern from the center and he lets those IDIOTS Pelosi and Reid run wild, it will be a short single term. He damn well better show some backbone, but lets give him a chance to do that. The dems would be really well served to remove Pelosi and Reid from thier leadership roles. They do nothing but damage the party and the future of the country. Pelosi and Reid are to the dems as Bush was to the reps... Poison.

It's all relative. The center is a lot more left now than it was in 2000. Some of the stuff Bush did last year, if Clinton tried to do it in 2000, he'd be called a bloody commie.

True... The whole country is moving to the left, and that is a good thing. the "base" of the republican party will be further and further away from power and I couldnt be happier about that.

I personally thinks that is a rather shallow interpretation of both Reid and Pelosi.

While I personally think neither are inspired leaders with "excellent ideas", they have proved fairly good at cat herding the disparate faction of the democratic party, keeping the support of both blue dog democrats and far more liberal democrats happy with their leadership. And its now very likely that Pelosi will be able to keep legislation moving through the house, while Reid will continue to struggle against Republican filibusters in the Senate.

Reid and Pelosi's job is to get legislation though and not waste time on legislation that can't pass. As long as Reid and Pelosi retain democratic support of the membership, don't look for them to be replaced. Especially since what most of what they do is out of public view.

The country isn't moving left so much as the Republicans went off the deep-end to the far right. It's a sign of weakness to not be able to admit one's mistakes. Even worse is to compound them out of ideological stubbornness in the face of pressing reality. But that's exactly what the Pubs have done. Meh, the Dems did the same not too many years ago. These cycles come and go.

Never understood why the filibuster was allowed as a tactic to undermine the will of the majority. Most often its use is blatantly and solely obstructionist, a desperate measure without legitimacy, a pimple of a procedure that should be squeezed off.

Gregg says he'll take the job if replaced by a Republican. So much for country over party. Hope that gets that bastard off the list.

He gets rid of the Republicans' filibuster by making the Senate a Democratic supermajority parliament. Republicans will be relegated to the sidelines and hope that the Democrats trip up (eventually).

Skills, eh? His vetting team is certainly full of dunces.

She has said she won't run in 2010, which should give the Democrats another opening. Fivethirtyeight's ranking gives the 4 most competitive Senate races to Republican incumbents. The bleeding has not stopped.

this doesn't matter, Reid is a wuss and an idiot and won't ever get democrats to toe party lines like republicans do.
