Game. Set. Match.

Only one conservative, David Frum, saw it coming, but the rest of the conservative base told him to shut up

http://network.nationalpost.co...d-for-republicans.aspx

Looks like we got ourselves a civil war now. The strategic and tactical brilliance of putting limbaugh as the face of the republican party is absolutely genius by Obama's camp.

Steele Takes On Rush Limbaugh: "Ugly," "Incendiary" (VIDEO)
March 2, 2009 01:47 PM

Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele took umbrage Saturday night when CNN's D.L. Hughley referred to radio host Rush Limbaugh as "the de facto leader of the Republican party."

"No he's not. I'm the de facto leader of the Republican party," Steele said. The RNC chief went on to call Limbaugh, who that very day delivered the keynote address to the Conservative Political Action Conference, a mere "entertainer" whose show is "incendiary" and "ugly."

On his radio show today, Limbaugh fired back, calling the RNC and Michael Steele "so-called Republicans" and saying that they "need a little leadership."

So I am an entertainer and I have 20 million listeners because of my great song and dance routine," Limbaugh said. "Michael Steele, you are head of the Republican National Committee. You are not head of the Republican party. Tens of millions of conservatives and Republicans have nothing to do with the Republican National Committee...and when you call them asking for money, they hang up on you."

"I hope that changes," Limbaugh continued. "It's time, Mr. Steele, for you to go behind the scenes and start doing the work that you were elected to do instead of being some talking-head media star."

Why do you like it? Shouldn't you want the United States to have a steady, co-existing political scene? How does intra-party fighting make anything better for anyone?

The GOP in its current state deserves to be a permanent minority party.

Well I think Democrats would say Republicans have been a disaster for the country, so anything that keeps them out of power is good.

I've always wondered that if Rush had enough money he might run for office. If he destroys his party then he might be able to get real power. He's never been one who cared much for anyone but himself anyway.

I dont think he would run for office. He makes tons of money yelling at those people. If he had to be in their shoes he would have to make concessions and work with people.

IMO, the true conservatives just need to move over to the Libertarian party and let the fundies and neocons finish running the Republican party into the ground.

Yes, Ben Smith remembering Bill Kristol's infamous 1993 memo puts GOPs true agenda into proper perspective and context.

Na, the last Republican President didn't work with anyone, why should he? Besides he's making a heap of money. Once his contract expires he could never spend it. Think of all the idolaters coming out to worship him? It's hard to think how he could resist real power and people making obeisance. Still, he may be like the millionaire of old who when asked "How much noney is enough" responded "Just a little more"

Keep the people fixated on the left hand about Rush Limbaugh while they rape the public coffers with the right. If it works more power to them I guess.

Is Rush even popular? I doubt it. And I never even heard of Steele other than he is black.

Bottom line is republicans need an Obama - however, they don't come by like every year but every 15 or so..

Obama is probably one the best politicians, right up there with Reagan and Clinton, I ever saw. Both 8 year guys so won't be easy to beat him.

Depression may do it. Pretty bad when republicans have to bank on that to 'win.'

"Obama's big payoff from making Limbaugh the defacto leader of the republican party"

Anyone else have trouble with the idea that Mr Obama is able to choose the leader of the republican party?

Brilliant...distract the masses from the fallacies of this entire stimulus package by shifting focus to a polarizing right-wing attention whore...thereby drowning out calls for fiscal conservatism, and digging the deficit hole even deeper.

The Republican party as it stands is a party of losers run by losers.

The internal conflict will do them some good. It'll shake out the losers, or at least cause the true conservatives to go form their own party that is free from the degenerate pundits.

Truth be told, Newt Ginrich is the more a leader of the the GOP. Limbaugh is merely a drug addicted windbag, and despite all of Limbaugh's ranting, during the GOP of primaries of 2008, the larger GOP electorate
firmly paid zero attention to Rush's advice.

But if the GOP's answer to Obama is Boehner, McConnell, and Gingrich obstructionism, by 2010, the GOP big tent can hold their meetings inside of a pup tent with room to spare.

Years 1994 to 2006, the GOP got everything they had been belly achingly advocated for 50 years, and there are no words to describe how badly they failed.

The GOP has discredited itself, and until the GOP starts to reinvent themselves as a responsible party, attacking the GOP lunatics is what the democrats should do. Just like the great depression of the 1930's,
the American public will remember republican failures for decades. And the GOP fighting progress while advocating more of their same policies will only accelerate the GOP decline.

Face the facts, the onus is really on the GOP to give Limbaugh the ole heave ho.

Yup, anything to take attention away from the disaster going on right now.
