Obama and Biden are coming to Indiana this morning to tell the people of Kokomo what a great job they did saving the city from collapsing into Detroit.

Official predictions for the speech, place your bets:

-President will roll up sleeves (Confirmed) (+1 if VP does the same)
-He will take credit for at least 1,000 jobs being saved (Confirmed)
-He will take credit for at least 8% drop in unemployment
-He will tell at least one childhood story
-Biden will wear a hard hat (+1 if President does as well)
-10 points if either engage in some sort of manual labor at the Chrysler plant

Speech will be along the lines of:

-A lot has been done, we have a lot more to do (Confirmed)
-Inherited mess from previous admin (Confirmed)
-Biden done good (Confirmed)
-People of Kokomo represent the real America
-He single-handedly saved the auto industry
-10 points if he mentions Korea

Methinks our OP has copied the script from our past Presidents, GWB, Clinton, GHB, Reagan, Carter, and Nixon. And lots of them before. But but but when Obama does the same thing, no one has rage and hatred like a GOP poster with a democratic President.

Can't possibly let Obama ever look good and pander to the people, sterilize, sic, chew, bite, masticate, bark, and howl at the moon. Because our OP is nothing but a goon.

It isn't a bad idea, if we go about it the right way.

If we subsidise it, then, no, it's not a good idea. If we have to legislate their competitiveness in any way, it is not a good idea.

GM has something on the order of $45 billion in tax credits, so we'll basically be subsidizing them for over a decade.

Pretty shocking considering how the ultra competitive, libertarian ideal manufacturers in China, Korea, Japan, and Europe are able to compete without government help.

There's nothing wrong with a government trying to attract business. However, that is very different than a government legislating a particular business in to or out of competition.
