Wait, I thought Obama sold out to the banks?
You really think this get out of committee in any form that is not merely window dressing like the credit card bill? Political grandstanding. Law are on the books right now to dea lwith these banks Obama's justice refuses to enforce.

they used TARP to bail out a whole bunch of things that weren't banks, they know the'yre never going to get the money back from GM and fiat, so they tax the banks. good idea.

and you know it'll just get passed on to lower level employees and customers. taxing companies is such a bad idea for transparency and tax fairness.

What you think the Banks will raise the interest on Credit Cards to unreasonable rates..well more unreasonable than they already are?

probably checking account fees. raising those is probably easier than credit card stuff now. that or not hiring another teller/not as many raises for tellers. it's never the people at the top that suffer when taxes are put on corps.

Dont worry about the banks, theyll just raise your fees to make up for the difference.

Damn, I guess people will just have to switch to Credit Unions.

I thought that the government was going to make money on the bailout - at least Timmy said so. I guess he was not counting on paying billions to unions and GM that would never be repaid.

So, not it is the job of the banks (not only those that recieved money but the top 50) to float GM and the unions. Redistribution at its best. Can't wait until all my bank fees go through the roof to pay this BS.

More proof that the government should not be in the business of banking or auto manufacturing, or hell, even making roads. Now they want health care, how short is that going to run...

Don't think that many of the banks with >50b on their balance sheets do retail.

It's a tax to discourage too big to fail I guess,
you can always switch to a smaller bank.

lol, seriously.

i love how the dems can swing 180* from what the fundies are bitching about, and they just bitch some more, completely ignoring anything they said the previous month/week/day.

i really wish they would just secede into the United States of Corporate America. walmart can be president.

High expectations, huh?
President for a year. Count me as underwhelmed. Unless a new crisis is forced upon Obama and he rises to it he will be a disappointment as he has been.

But if regional/local banks are immune to this, so be it. If this was big enough to weaken the big banks (it won't be), it would be simply skinning the cat another way (that being to downsize them to a point where they are not too big to fail). End result a win anyhow.

I'm to the point where I can't get myself worked up over specific policies now. It doesn't matter whether it's government or private enterprise, they're both going to to their best to fuck me. My new course of action is to no longer try to stop both of these entities from being fuckers. That can't be helped, they are by their very nature fuckers and fucking is all they know. All I can do is cover my ass and do my best to make sure I don't get fucked.

He's accomplished more than I've ever thought he would. After all, he did kill that fly on national TV :p

Well we need more taxes in this country somewhere because we certainly can't stop spending! Republicans need to fund their wars and Democrats their socialist programs.

Bingo. All the banks covered by this have paid back all the TARP money with interest. This is just a scheme to allow the government to continue transferring money to the unions and GSEs to continue funding liberalism. (SEIU is in the Coakley campaign for what, a million now?) And anyone believing this is a "temporary fee" probably lives in fear of being mugged by the Tooth Fairy.

It is amazing to me that Wall Street bankers are basking in billions of taxpayer bonuses when they should be just as insolvent as the homeowners they are foreclosing on and the citizens not only bend over and take it without a wimper some actually defend them.

Again, this applies to banks that didn't receive a cent or repaid it all as well. It is a purposeful effort to harm our economy even more.

Pre tax: I hate Obama, he's in the pocket of the bankers against us all! BAWWWW.

Post tax: I hate Obama, he's hurting the poor banks! BAWWWW.

The ultra right crazies like spidey and a few others in this thread will hate Obama no matter what he does. They are blinded by partisan hatred and there's nothing that's going to change it.

It's unfortunate for those who received no funds but of those who did, imo you made a deal with the devil you're his bitch now. You said at the time you'd be fvcked without the money, you got it, too bad you are now owned. I will shed no tear for these banks.
