Because he's like all Keynesian economists. Economy bad, spend more, economy good, double down on spending.

Bad economy: "we need government to spend more, to get the economy back in gear. Right now is the worst time to cut back, we need to spend more!"

Good economy: "times are good, we can finally do all that stuff we couldn't afford to do before. Spend more!".

Result: 18 trillion in debt and counting.

Repubs--"but what about the middle class and the growing wealth gap?!"

Obama--"here's a budget that will address some of that"

Repubs--"more government spending and tax increases!"

Obama--"it's spending on needed infrastructure and tax decreases for the lower and middle class paid for by tax increases on the wealthy by raising taxes on capital gains and profits kept out of America"

Repubs--"sorry, no! Try helping the middle class some other way, we've got to protect the wealthy. And no we have no ideas on how to do that"

Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Either lead, follow, or get the fuck out of the way!

I'm fine with the infrastructure spending. The tax cuts should be in rates instead of yet more credits further cluttering the tax system. I'd rather cut bottom rate from 10% to 8% for example rather than child care credits, etc. as it stupidly gives arbitrary benefits to some poor persons but not others.

Oppose the expansion of DoD funding. Oppose further subsidizing the higher education complex even though "free" 2 year college would benefit some; if anything we should start exploiting the MOOC model more and "traditional" colleges far less.

Remember too that it's not their money they're spending. Of course it's no longer our money but it's not their money, it's just money. Oh, along with the borrowed money. Lots of that.

Clinton surplus and path to paying down the debt
Republicans get in and want tax cuts and engage in 2 unfounded wars
Obama elected
Republican want tax cuts
Look at Kansas as to what the model of the modern Republican Party.

And which blue state's public school system is responsible for the nonsensical jumble of words you just typed?

Really? While I agree with some of his new ideas, community college, and STEM financing. I am just baffled that we can't reduce our deficit. And why do we need more defense spending?

Anyway, its DOA, so I guess its moot. But there it is

The deficit is currently down to its historical average, just so you know. Considering that we still have no inflation, why would you want to cut spending more considering weak wage growth, etc?

The economy still isn't good. It's better than it was, but it's not good. This obsession with the deficit is what has screwed over so many other countries, and I'm sure you don't want us to end up like them.

I like the infrastructure plan. But really?

The plan includes a $478 billion public works infrastructure program for roads, bridges, and transit systems, to be financed by taxes on overseas earnings.

So expect to see more companies not bringing money back stateside.

Unlikely. Obama's new corporate tax plan probably deserves its own thread, but that's specifically accounted for.

The historical average that brought our lovely $18 Trillion debt?

I'm guessing you are the one on the right? You shouldn't sell yourself short like that, I'm confident you can do more than the low intelligence work they do;)

The hilarity out of you just won't stop. Tell me another.

I don't get how taxing the rich is supposed to significantly help the middle class? Also, it seems to me like the definition of "rich" is now eroding into the upper middle class.

Obama and the Dems are either (1) strictly playing the election game, or (2) really don't have a clue how much businesses don't need to be headquartered in the U.S.

Businesses are not climbing over one another for the opportunity to be centered within the U.S.

ivwshane, whether you want to admit it or not, you are a shill who enjoys the game of conflict and argument against those you wish to look down upon, far more than you care about any accuracy over the things you talk about.

I am always amazed at how many times I see Republicans point out that the national debt is 18 trillion under Obama.

It would be like Pete Carroll doing a press conference and saying that he couldn't believe how bad of an interception Wilson threw at the end of the game.

I guess if you didn't know shit about football, you could chalk that one up on the QB.

I know Obama contributed ZERO to that debt. ZERO right? /S

It was Bush's fault. Get with the program!

In Eskimospy's view it's Bush's fault the figure is so low. He would have had far higher stimulus and probably would be ok if it was $118T in debt. Only 18 is for pikers who don't believe in the magic of Keynesian Stimulus™.
