Essentially what the USA is saying "World look, there is a pot of gold behind that tree, but we aren't going to get it. We like to buy gold."

Someone will take the gold eventually.

The sad thing is that the USA would go around the tree to get the gold while China and many other countries would plow through the tree to get the gold.

I agree. Calling Obama a liberal is a stretch, he is so far to the left as to be an outright communist. Obama's political opposition in the Democrat party is so strong that it took a year to get his premiere agenda health care bill passed, even though he had a super majority in both houses.

I also agree with you that Obama's opposition, the liberals, were exaggerating when they called themselves moderates and proved that description to be false, like you say, when they voted for the health care bill anyway.

Please describe what you see as a "moderate leftist," i.e. one who isn't what you call an "outright communist." What does this hypothetical person believe ideologically? What policies does this person support and oppose?

I have to ask such questions, because it bears exploring whether anyone who considers Obama "an outright communist" is able to recognize the existence of any middle ground between far right and far left. If you are unable to articulate what the middle ground is, then I have to conclude that you believe anyone to the left of you, to any degree, is a communist.

The funny thing is that China could just move in and take the oil if it is more than 50 miles off the coast and there is NOTHING the US could do about it.

Let China take it and probably be worse to the environment or have the US take it and infinitely lower the risk of any environmental impact.

In what universe does helping middle class Americans mean you can't raise taxes on anybody, anytime, anywhere, even businesses who are intentionally not providing insurance to hardworking middle class Americans so they have a competitive advantage over their more ethical competitors?
