The Washington Times is Rev. Sun Myung Moon's right wingnut propoganda rag. Anyone who cites anything from a source like that is brain dead.

Amazing how other leaders were able to attend.

Proving the point. If you're so well versed in the physics of flying a jet through destructive volcano dust clouds, you could always volunteer to fly to Poland, yourself, to express condolences on behalf of our nation.

Of course, if you do, there's the strong possiblity people will then be sending condolences to your family when your plane crashes.

Where in Michael Moore when you need him?

He's making films documenting idiots who try to concoct bogus political storms when those they oppose exhibit common sense.

Trigonometry Fail.

Negative, Fail, sorry.

Sure, he could Fly around the cloud, but he couldn't Land in Europe. Then he'd have to hop onto a Boat or Train, depending on where he landed. Either way introduces numerous logistic challenges from Time to Security. This all happened rather last minute, so such changes were not practical.

Didn't stop the Russians from flying and landing.....

Again, Obama (being the true diplomat he is - iPod/Region 1 DVDs -> England) simply didn't care and going golfing on top of it was a slap in the face.

It's really not a big deal...but if he really wanted to be there...he would be there. Who are we kidding here?

Bullshit! If he really wanted to be there, he'd still have been blocked by the reality that flying there was physically impossible, and no other means of transport exists that would have gotten him there on time.

Who do you think YOU are kidding, here?

there was nothing GWB could have done in New Orleans, yet he got constant shit for playing golf.

the whole thing is silly, imo. does it send a bad image? probably... does it really matter? probably not.

How exactly did the Russian president fly there?

Stop ignoring the fact that he could have gotten there if he wanted.

Instead he played golf...

Are you sure about that? Granted he couldn't have prevented the Storm but he could have acted more decisively afterwards IMO.
I mean, physically.

a thousand and one things went wrong in NO, but GWB standing there with a bucket surrounded by an army of secret service agents would have, if anything, made the situation worse.

Mr patrANUS,
if Obama had gone to the funeral at all COST by flying around the globe.. you would be Ok with him spending your tax money on fuel to fly around the world?

The slams against bush for playing golf/vacation were all over the news and this very forum. As it stands Obama is setting records for being out of the office considering we have so much "crisis" according to him it's highly amusing.

Let's assume a regular round of 4.5 hours, round up to 5 for a few beers at the turn to 5 hours. That's 160 hours or approximately 4 full weeks of vacation and he hasn't been in office 15 months.

Lets assume in any given week he is working 100 hours .....12 month lets say 52 weeks x 100 hours = 5200 hours

normal man work week 40 hours x 49 weeks = 1960 (and avg. 3 weeks vacation a year)

point is he has earned vacation if hours worked equals vacation days earned. he has used far less vacation days than he has earned in comparison to the average man.

personally i'd prefer he play golf than spend the time and resources traveling to a funeral

Didn't you know that it is absolutely impossible for Obama to visit Poland right now. Obama could not visit Poland right now even if Poland offered to pay off our national debt. It just can't happen.. deal with it.

If Poland was willing to pay off our national debt, Obama can get in a rowboat for that. :awe:

Did the Russian president fly over from the US?

Apparently geography has a liberal bias as well.

Alright alright, Patranus and Doc Savage is right. Obama should have just pulled out his communicator and asked Scotty to beam him over. Sheesh, the thoughtlessness of some people!

For one thing...

nytimes1-499x544.png

the dust and particulate cloud wasn't as dense and contiguous between parts of Russia and parts of Poland.

For another, the cloud was most dense above 20,000 ft. A shorter flight at a lower altitude would be practical, especially since most air traffic was halted, allowing for use of an available lower altitude route.

For yet another, Russian President Medvedev's flight would have been entirely over land, allowing much better chances for a safe landing in any emergency. Obama would have had to fly through much more of the volcano's plume, over open seas and probably at a higher altitude.

Stop ignoring the fact that he could have gotten there if he wanted.

And you think it would be worthwhile to jeopradize the life of the President of the United States to attend a funeral? I keep trying to find reasons not to call you an idiot, and you refuse to allow that to happen.

I didn't see you going to Poland, either. Were you too chickenshit? :hmm:

Instead he played golf...

Instead, you played with yourself in this jackoff of a thread.
