Obama open to new health benefits tax

WASHINGTON - The White House left open the possibility Sunday that President Barack Obama might pay for his health care overhaul by taxing employer-provided health insurance even though he had campaigned on not raising taxes on middle-class families.

Oh God. I'm not complaining about the broken promise specifically because we knew that would go down in flames in no time just like Clinton's middle class tax cut.

I think what's ironic is how Obama severely criticized McCain during the campaign for his taxing of employer-provided healthcare. More ironic though is that he's going to tax the alternative to UHC to fund UHC. Hey, let's steal money from a system that's currently better to fund our broken medicare/medicaid system to make it better. The worse we make private health insurance, the better we'll look. In the end UHC will be better such that the plan will be a hit!

Earth to Obama:

If you are going to provide social health care, people and businesses that could otherwise afford it are going to stop providing it.

HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii is dropping the only state universal child health care program in the country just seven months after it launched.

Gov. Linda Lingle's administration cited budget shortfalls and other available health care options for eliminating funding for the program. A state official said families were dropping private coverage so their children would be eligible for the subsidized plan.

"People who were already able to afford health care began to stop paying for it so they could get it for free," said Dr. Kenny Fink, the administrator for Med-QUEST at the Department of Human Services. "I don't believe that was the intent of the program."

Cap & Trade and now this. How many thousands in taxes will this administration lay on my middle class family? Oh yeah, it was off set by raising taxes on the top 5% and allowing me to keep 19 bucks more a paycheck right????

Brilliant, just brilliant.

Who is advising Obama on this, they certainly don't have a good graps of economics?

These taxes are a war against Americans. We will not forgive them so easily. Democrats hung themselves because the road the socialism is fraught with failure. It?s only a matter of time before these incumbents are the new devils to be chased out of office.

The true shame and crime against our country is that once removed, we?ll replace these incumbents with more of the same.

Social engineering is about wealth redistribution. In this case, they'd achieve their objectives. You aren?t supposed to care about the cost of government services so long as you?ve provided government services.

The costs of healthcare are ultimately the source of the problem. You have to control the costs and make them manageable. Now he thinks to get his plan funded is to tax people that will get zero benefit. Thats a quick way to lose a lot of voters. He is probably taking this strategy hoping he will get republican support because it was orginally McCains bad idea.

Obama was talking about INCOME taxes you dumb idiots, not other taxes!

OK, just kidding. Yep, he lied through his fvcking teeth.

However, I absolutely have been sure that if public provided healthcare didn't just outright suck ass, many people would flock from private to it, essentially over time shrinking down private by various means. This is a great way to get started.

There is truth to that. The comradeship will raise taxes more than one cent by many thousands cents.

One thing you better believe is any estimate OBamma comes up with for the cost of UHC will be about 10% of what it will really cost to implement and fund. Either that or your Grandma's operation and expensive Aids drugs and your other high cost drugs will not be available on the plan. Prepare for Grandparents to die under the O'Bamma Plan.

McCain wanted a tax so he could give a tax credit for individuals to buy health insurance. He didn't want to reform it so people with preexisting conditions could actually buy coverage or do anything about the price of insurance.

Obama wants the tax for a public option that will cover anyone and have reasonable premiums. Its also been hinted that the tax would only affect people with really expensive benefits packages.

I can get behind Obama on this one because of the safety net aspect. If I got laid off, I would use a public option because it would be many times cheaper than COBRA and I could afford it. I'm willing to pay more now for a safety net when I need it. If it also helps my parents get reasonably priced insurance, even better.

Still waiting for my Grandparents to die on Medicare.

Oh wait, they did... and they were in their late 80s. Medicare didn't fail them. They were just old.

Meh. Teabaggers have been complaining since January about how much their taxes went up, even though they haven't. The Cap and Trade thing is going to be the same thing. All sorts of bitching from the right over nothing.

Better to bitch before you are thrown under the bus than cry after being run over.

Don't worry, it will all be justified. As I've said before UHC is to the Dems what Iraq was to the Reps. If it forwards the cause it will be acceptable.

The only teabagger I see is Obama, dangling his nuts on your tonsils.

Does anyone else remember Democrats crowing about how "Dissent is Patriotic" when Bush was in office? Funny how quickly that changes.

If your grandma has AIDS she is probably already a goner...

Glad my grandma doesn't have AIDS. ;)

Seriously though, have you seen how long the elderly can live? Medicare works fine, even against the monster that is private insurers.

UHC will have room to become 10x better than our Medicare type systems even once we can finally get people off these pricey, for-profit private insurance plans.

The difference is that no one is telling the Teabaggers to "Git out" or suggesting that they hate America or support terrorism.

Feel free to bitch all you want. The Teabaggers are great entertainment.

Interesting, because we couldnt have gone into Iraq without large-scale support from congressman and citizens from both sides.

Actually, "Git out" has been used quite frequently since Obama won. If you haven't seen that happening, it's because you can't see around Obama's gonads in your face.
