Obama gives candid opinion on Pot Prohibition (says it doesn't work).

I think he's starting to show his true feelings.

I'm glad he's side stepping what's written in policy and being honest about it.

So after all these years of being a President, US Senator and State Senator, he is finally starting to show his true feelings?

ok...

So an admitted drug abuser says a drug he really liked isn't so bad. How is this news?

It's a departure from precedent and arguably one of the first steps to admitting that the entire drug war has been a failure more harmful than the drugs themselves.

Prohibition works perfectly. The trick is to prohibit unpopular items. Too many people want weed or booze.
Whoopie Goldberg made an excellent point more or less on this subject. She is a connoisseur of fine Cuban cigars. Her statement was roughly:

"You cannot buy Cuban cigars in this country. They are illegal and you simply can't find them. Crack is illegal, too. You can buy crack across the street from the White House."

When government really wants to prohibit something, it can do so fairly effectively, as long as not that many people want it and are willing to break the law to get it. As demand increases, that prohibition becomes exponentially more difficult.

Because a drug abuser said so?

No studies? No scientific data?

Because Herr Obama says so?

None, I'm a non-smoker. You could possibly set up Whoopie though. Although that was a decade or two ago, maybe it's no longer the case?

Iunno

We used to buy them in Canada all the time. Maybe the hat banned them too?

What on Earth is going on in this post? Are you implying that Obama is currently on drugs? There's a significant difference between "user" and "abuser," and I fail to see how Obama has crossed that line. And then you venture into the truly deranged and go for the Nazi comparison. Come on man, you generally seem intelligent, don't let political differences shut off the oxygen supply to your brain.

I do think it's interesting that the last three presidents we've had have all copped to using illegal drugs at some point in their younger days. If you can experiment with pot or cocaine and still become President of the United States, how bad can they really be?

They have a sane foreign policy with Cuba. No ban there.

Shoot, half the congress members have used or are currently using, they just haven't gotten caught. Well except a couple recently...lol

Which I always find so hypocritical when these congress members want to drug test the unemployed or people on welfare for drugs but they don't want to be tested themselves.

It's probably something he picked up on Fox News. He's not very bright. Sensible people see this as a step forward in the failed war on drugs.

He's either old or lives in a bubble. I can say old because I consider myself to be at the threshold of old fartdum.
