When I said sell two carriers, I really meant give them away as part of a reduction in American capacity. Who cares about the purchase price when operating costs alone would save the US billions, and have almost as useful a strategic impact? Japan has been building, but carriers are a big investment even for the US. They might appreciate a leg up in the naval department.
Again, Japan is in no shape to afford such expenses. However, we could "mothball" one and put it in storage.
The US military is equal to the next seven largest in the world combined and anyone who thinks all that is just for defense needs their head examined. Hard work and talent will only get you so far in this world. It takes brute force for 3% of the world's population to consume 25% of its energy and half its resources.
It's amazing how generous and co-operative people will be when you point a cruise missile at them. A single carrier can take out most countries' air defenses in a couple days. A few weeks of carpet bombing after that will send them back to the stone age. No fuss, no muss, push button warfare from 30,000 feet and miles off shore. But you gotta have to the tools fool.
