Obama DOJ formally accuses journalist in leak case of committing crimes

Shizz seems to be getting out of hand in this administration and the DoJ rapidly.

I agree with whomever in the article said this beyond 'chilling' the press and is rising to freeze them.

And one thing I don't see anybody talking about - the 'leaks' the Obama team is going after don't even appear to be serious matters. The AP breaks a story only the day before the WH and that's a serious leak? The Rosen matter even less so.

Is Obama going to step up and control his admin?

I misread the headline as "apologizes to journalist." Damn my optimism.

It is now well known that the Obama justice department has prosecuted more government leakers under the 1917 Espionage Act than all prior administrations combined - in fact, double the number of all such prior prosecutions.

The fact that this ~100 year old law is being used more now than it was during the cold war paranoia is terrible.

The Russians were way less freaked out about a CIA agent trying to recruit a double agent than the DOJ is about a reporter reporting a relatively trivial piece of information that was shared with him.

Whether he's controlling it now or not is yet to be decided. But I'm thinking he's letting Valerie Jarrett call the shots. How hot does the heat need to get before he reigns her in? If he does, then he's going to have to make some decisions on his own. He's between a rock and a hard place.

Obama has prosecuted more people for "leaks" than all other Presidents combined?

"The most open and transparent administration ever"

My ass. This guy is a joke and needs to go.

Most people hoped Obama would use his second term to build upon what he tried to accomplish in his first. I'm pretty disappointed personally.

So far he's wasted any political capital he had after the election on an assault weapon ban, they've had to plead that they are closer to being idiots than liars on Benghazi, continued partisan bickering, and this crackdown on the press doesn't help either.

Not looking good.

O'Bammah does not believe in the 1st Amendment or the 2nd Amendment. Time for another political prisoner. Just like the muslim video maker another person must be put in prison to protect his lies. Death to all the press that dare to oppose the Dark Side.

Luke Luke . . . .

Ah, is this the thread of outrage before more information comes in?

\foam away, lads....

What, like an impeachment?

Seriously, if you were a Republican you'd be defending Rumsfeld. This is showing up in Huff Po and a lot of other places which are not Fox nor anything like it.

Cant you tell the press are just racist and hate all black men?

This is satire . . .

Sounds like poetic justice to me.

This coming from a guy who said in 08 greater protections for govt whistleblowers.

Yeah, this is douchelord 101 behavior.

Man, this is getting out of control. The only good news is, this is an issue that appears to be something both left and right in the media can stand together and oppose. That's the only way there will be pressure on the administration.

Looks like the DoJ may be targeting more than one Fox News journalist:

At least five other numbers targeted by the government include the area code 202 and the exchange 824. The phone number for the Fox News Washington bureau, which is publicly available, is (202) 824-0001. Rosen’s work phone number at Fox News begins with the same area code and exchange.

William Miller, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney, told The New Yorker this afternoon, “Because that information is sealed, I can’t confirm the owner or subscriber for any of those records.” Asked if the phone numbers of any reporters had been targeted in the Kim investigation, Miller said he could not comment.

Obama has fast become a tyrant, and his administration are a bunch of jack booted thugs running amuck with no accountability. this is a scary time. Bush was not this bad and i flamed bush often.

This is how you turn a country into a place like Venezuela. You have to silence the political opposition: use the IRS and DoJ to silence political opponents, then you can do whatever you want.

Scary stuff, and the sheeple just stand by and allow it.

I don't know of anybody not concerned about this abuse of power.

But if "allowing" it means not taking up arms against the GOVT, then I disagree with your POV.

What am I defending? I want more information before making a determination.

There a problem with that?

\call me a motherfucking, low-life, no good piece of shit, however....
\\never call me a republican ever again.

http://openchannel.nbcnews.com/_new...-news-reporters-private-emails-official-says?

Attorney General Eric Holder signed off on a controversial search warrant that identified Fox News reporter James Rosen as a “possible co-conspirator” in violations of the Espionage Act and authorized seizure of his private emails, a law enforcement official told NBC News on Thursday.

The disclosure of the attorney general’s role came as President Barack Obama, in a major speech on his counterterrorism policy, said Holder had agreed to review Justice Department guidelines governing investigations that involve journalists.

Is there a point in time when you'll say "this is enough, this war on a free press is a step too far"?
