our limping national defense capabilities?

We have fucking 11 carrier battle groups, each of which can wipe a country off of the face of the earth in short order. Nukes galore. Unmanned drones. Cruise missiles.

If anything our military needs reshaped the way our commanders have been asking for for decades. "Leaner, meaner, more technologically advanced."

We don't need 200 foreign bases.

I agree with some of what you're saying but it's really not that simple. I'd love to disengage with much of what the military is tasked with but we shouldn't do it by apologizing or leaving our door unlocked.

I'm associated with the military as both a veteran and a person who works with and around the average GI....they are in poor shape as they are continually threatened with reduced benefits and compared to postman....the equipment is even worse. Most of it is a pile of polished turds that are more expensive to keep active than to buy new equipment.

It's almost as over simplified as Obamas statement about horses and bayonets. That just proved to me he really doesn't get it. I won't even bring up Libya.

It's good to see that even though Obama won the stupidity on the right hasn't disappeared.

You guys are some of the dumbest mother fuckers I have ever seen! Limping military? Comparing us to Europe?

You guys better get into your fallout shelters I wouldn't want you to get hurt with the sky falling and all.

You know the way that you and other liberal Democrats feel about George Bush? That's the way most Republicans feel about Obama, except even more so. As far as I'm concerned if my House member (Republican) compromises with Obama in any way, shape, matter or form, he'll be out looking for another job anyways. He's my representative, not yours and not Obama's.

the funny thing is... i remember democrats in the senate actually COMPROMISING with the republicans and bush. that's the main problem that everyone has with congress right now is that it's completely locked up by the republicans screaming NO at everything. i mean... well into his presidency there were still cabinet appointments president obama hadn't made simply because the republicans refused to approve anyone he nominated.

democrats offered to budge on medicare and social security in exchange for tax increases and the republicans just insisted that taxes weren't an option. that's not compromise. that's not governing. that's not leading. that's not looking for solutions. that's not going to fix the economy. that's not going to make the country safer.

I don't know who "you guys" are....and how is "your" side any better in terms of ignorance? Drink the Kool Aid, let the government take care of you regardless of the methods or consequences?

If you think some of the agenda being pitched and pushed doesn't directly compare to European socialism then your the dumbest mother fucker ever seen. Look at the laws on the books as of late and how they impact your rights.

Have you been associated with the military or have you just watched the commercials? The military is in disrepair....period. Welfare and other government programs far exceed the debt from the DOD. That's not my opinion, that's just a fact.

This is where we fail as a people. We see compromise as the best solution, and it is necessary, however it's not so much a means of accommodation for the People, but for pure political concern. I'd rather see a competition for excellence first, then give and take for the greatest benefit of the citizen. That appears to be a concept so astounding that most haven't even considered it much less that we insist on it from our representatives.

California had a proposition on the ballot regarding the budget and in it it required that programs be audited/analyzed and goals to be set with regards to what the program was trying to accomplish. The idea of course was to create more efficient programs or get rid of or replace programs that weren't meeting its own intentions.

Of course it didn't pass.

Obama will wimp out. He will cave on most issues to republicans.

1. Bush tax cuts expire = cave

2. Defense cuts = cave

3. Debt ceiling = cave

This will be a hollow victory tonight. Oh well, at least the rich people won't get their $5 Trillion dollar tax cut.

January is going to be fun, increased taxes and layoffs by military contractors.

I'm looking forward to Obama owning it.

After all those tax increases will make everything better.

The rich will be paying their fair share, the military spending cuts. We should be able to pay the debt off over night come feb 1.

And those in uniform who will be forced to turn that uniform in. They will be added to the large group of folks looking for work.

It really doesn't matter if someone is a GI, military contractor or mail man, if they don't have a job they are unemployed all the same.

Which is what the left wants.

Then they'll get their unemployement checks. Which the evil republicans hate. But if you vote for the dem's you'll keep getting more free money.

You overestimate. What you can expect is four years of gridlock. I'm hoping both sides well stop being idiots and start thinking. Not likely, but it could happen.

/this

but shit ain't going to change until peoples mentality change. it shouldn't be "win at any cost" that we have now. it should be what is best for America.

Yeah i think the GOP is not going to compromise and its going to bite them in the ass when the fiscal cliff hits. Then they will get all the blame and be ruined for years to come. They better wise up and stop being so anal.

The word compromise isn't part of their vocabulary anymore. (I'm talking about both democrats and republicans). There are only a handful of congressmen that deserve to be there and actually try to work together to acomplish something for the American people.

Those are referred to by party leadership and partisan idiots on this forum as RINOs and DINOs... and that's sad.

IMO the way for Republicans to win the tax issue is to propose a fleshed out version of Romney's plan to reduce rates and make up the difference by eliminating deductions.

Of course neither party would ever do this for the same reason that the deductions exist in the first place: they benefit various interest groups and pet causes.

hahaha fuck off, even independents hate Bush. Did you see how toxic Bush's name was during the debates? Starting a ten year war and sending the country into debt is far worse than anything Obama has done

Obama continuing that ws and spending deeper into debt must be part of that transparency and change that was touted

If Obama wants anything moved forward on his agenda; he is going to have to mend fences and compromise.
He and his team poisoned the well 4 years ago; they will have to drain, scrub and refill before anything can be drunk.

You do not go around calling the House Majority Leader a terrorist because he does not agree with you.

Obama and his team poisoned the well? You're making the assumption that there was a well to begin with.

After the 2008 election results were in, the Republican party had lost control of the presidency and finished the process of handing Congress to the Democrats that began in 2006. They were a minority party across the federal government. This is not a position in which compromise is the first thing on their minds.
