“In the same way that our view of our vulnerabilities and our foreign policy was shaped profoundly by 9/11,” the president said in an Oval Office interview on Friday, "I think this disaster is going to shape how we think about the environment and energy for many years to come.”

In his firmest declaration yet that he views the calamity as an impetus to push Congress afresh to pass a major energy and climate bill, Obama vowed to “move forward in a bold way in a direction that finally gives us the kind of future-oriented, … visionary energy policy that we so vitally need and has been absent for so long.

Is it 2012 yet?

“The irony of course is, is that the rap on me before I got to office was that that’s all I could do -- right?” he said with a chuckle. “[Y]ou know, ‘The guy gives a great speech, he inspires people, gets them all excited but we don’t know if he can manage and govern.’ So it’s not that I don’t think these issues are important. It’s that there’s a time and a place for these issues. …

Looks like Obama knows he is in over his head. He is right, he cannot manage.

It would be interesting if he retaliates militarily and attacks the UK for harboring and supporting the BP masterminds the same way we attacked Afghanistan for the 9/11 attacks.

No sorry he doesn't hate white people like you do. Remember, his mom is white. You may also want to look up the difference between negligence and intentional acts.

However, his mom was certainly not a white supremacist like you, craving for some bizarre white homeland where the Queen can preside over peasants. In addition, the UK is a decently diverse country. It's not your fabled white homeland.

It doesn't matter whether one is negligence and another is intentional. Many forms of negligence reach the same or even worse forms of punishment than an intentional act.

Imagine cruise missiles slamming into Big Ben.

Volcanic ash, oil spill destroying their most important company, "losing" in the World Cup tie... potential missile strike. It's been a bad few months for them!

You are aware that Big Ben is a bell inside a clock tower, right?
Not exactly the British equivalent of the WTC, eh?

That the man intends to use the oil spill as an excuse to push attacks on civil liberties and economic development?

It's a story.

That's what I'm getting as well. Makes November that much more important.

Honestly, I'm sure Obama is about as happy as he could be that this disaster happened.

I'm starting to wonder if maybe he's purposely not doing as much as he could to solve the problem and cleanup because he wants it to get as worse as possible for the publicity.

Agree. Make no mistake, he wants it to be as bad as it can be.

My conspiracy meter keeps going off. He wanted to destroy the oil companies and destroy the coal industry. Why have so many coal mining accidents been so bad the last 2 years?

With no oil and coal, where will all the millions of people working in those industries find work? Intel? :awe:

Once again you are raving. Just because I don't believe whites aren't evil doesn't mean I'm a white supremacist. And ou should probably see someone about your violent fantasies btw. You are one sick puppy.

You're a white supremacist because you advocate racial supremacist theories and support a race-based societal structure.

This.

Speaking of which, I am selling my entire stock of PH Virtual Carbon Credits (tm) for 50% off this week in honor and memorandum of those killed, hurt, or devastated financially in some way by the oil spill.

For every dollar spent, I will donate point-two (0.2) cents to the Make a Virtual Wish Foundation in hopes of bringing virtual happiness to fellow geeks all over the interwebz!

For every PH Virtual Carbon Credit (tm) purchased between now and June 30th, newly hired green employees, wearing green uniforms, will plant one green tree in Second Life's Hug-a-tree Today Rain Forest (tm). Order right away, and I'll throw in a free annual flower of your choice -- pick any color!!

IF YOU LOVE THE ENVIRONMENT, YOU WILL ORDER RIGHT AWAY!! PM for details...

He's right, sorry.
Time should show in coming months how fair the analogy is. I suppose at this point it's too early to say it's rubbish unless you pore through quotes from the BP CEO, in which case the impact will be "very, very modest" :)

Wat?

Drilling oil was not the problem. The problem is that BP didn't follow proper procedures, and the government didn't lean on them to make sure that they did.

Maybe a nice analogy would lighten the mood. Suppose you are sleeping with your insane ex girlfriend but you are ignoring the proper procedures by not using a condom. Disaster strikes and crazy woman gets pregnant. Instead of saying the disaster was the result of not following proper procedures, you then rule that sex is what caused the pregnancy and ALL sex must be stopped now and in the future.

There's actually a medical term for this kind of mental illness. Splitting.
Splitting is thinking purely in extremes (e.g., good versus bad, powerful versus defenseless, and so on). Splitting can be seen as a developmental stage and as a defence mechanism.
......
If a person fails to accomplish this developmental task, borderline pathology can develop. The borderline personality is not able to integrate the good and bad images of both self and others. Kernberg also states that people who suffer from borderline personality disorder have a bad representation which dominates the good representation.

Damn borderline personality disorder strikes again. I already posted a ton about this in the L&R forum and now it's part of politics. Nut cases run the government. Borderline people who belong in mental hospitals are the reason we can't have nuclear power plants and must rely on coal for electricity, and now they're the ones driving some kind of pseudo ban on oil extraction. They're also the ones who ban guns because 1 person does bad things while the other 200 million people are doing just fine. Remember that the key part of borderline personality disorder is that the person seeing the black and white good vs evil tends to put their opinion on the most negative side (all oil is bad, all nuclear is bad, all guns are bad, all black people are bad, all fat people smell like cheese).

Comparing the intentional deaths of 3000 Americans via an intentional act of war can't even be compared to an accident.
