But that isnt what we are arguing. On an individual basis everybody has their own experiences. What we are arguing is the systematic approach of the Nazi's. Did we approach such a level in this country?

Not even close.

There was certainly a systemic approach. Remember, we interned Japanese-Americans. The main difference is that there were no death or labor camps. This was primarily a European thing (with gulags in Russia).

Obama did not say that the US in the 1950s was like Nazi Germany, he said it was "uncomfortably similar"...if you don't understand the difference, there's really no point in talking with you.

Of course the Republican noise machine doesn't REALLY think Obama said the US was like Nazi Germany, this is just a (desparate) campaign tactic. You guys are getting your collective ass kicked because the American people aren't buying what you're selling, so you're throwing anything and everything against the wall to see what sticks. If these were really important issues that Republicans actually cared about, they wouldn't be jumping from one to the other every few days when they noticed nobody giving a shit about their latest issue.

The real problem is that you think 1950s America wasn't as bad as Nazi Germany.

Dont be ignorant.

Are you saying that I'm ignorant of the "fact" that blacks are, unlike Jews, deserving of being treated like animals, ghettoized, terrorized, and executed? Oppressing one group of people is as bad as oppressing any other. Boo hoo, I'm politically incorrect!!!

I am saying you are ignorant if you think 1950's America was as bad or worse than Nazi Germany. 1950's America had serious race issues. But it was nowhere near what happend under the Nazi's.

If you were a black man being beaten you'd say it was just as bad.

Serious race issues? Give me a break, I'm sick of that politically correct gobbledygook. Southern whites were committing crimes against humanity daily, whether by burning churches and beating blacks, or by standing by and doing nothing. The only thing missing was large scale genocide, but remember that didn't come until later in Nazi Germany.

Is that it? Have you read history at all?

What happened in this country was terrible, an abomination, no getting around that. But Nazi Germany it wasnt.

1865-1960: African-Americans went from slavery to harsh racism and an unforgiving and brutal judicial system. But, to you, it was never as bad as Nazism, correct? You wouldn't know shit about either one. I think it's better to as a black person and a Jewish person who lived in both time periods. I doubt you would understand their fears, terrorism, and racism faced by each group.

To be honest, the main difference between the two was the time period, which is why the Nazi system failed to endour. If they were smart and had not been so aggressive in their policies and dreams their reich may have lasted over a hundred years, instead of being concentrated in 12. You also fail to remember that this endemic racism was all across the Western-world.

Was it as bad? It depends on who you ask. As a non-Jewish non-homosexual German living at the time if their life was bad and they would probably say no.

The main differences was Germany institutionalized the rascism beyond what we saw in our country. On a scale and scope which was never seen within our country. And with a purpose most people cant comprehend.

I already explained what happened in this country was terrible. There is no getting around it. But it never approached the level of Nazi Germany.

Character?

You mean like dumping your disabled wife for an heiress?

You mean like cavorting with prostitutes?

You mean like selling your entire soul to win an election.

If McCain = impeccable character to you hacks then you need to seriously readjust your moral compasses.

We had institutional racism as well. You are right, American racism never approached Nazi racism. But Obama never said that. He said it was "uncomfortably similar". Again, you would never understand that because you aren't black or Jewish. The white Americans and Germans knew of the laws and severe racism but they turned a blind eye to it because the victims were different. They did nothing because it wasn't their problem.

Well I should clarify that I am not discussing what Obama said but debating individuals within this thread about this topic. More specifically Throckmortons contention that Nazi German and 1950's United States were equals.

You know, I find it quite hilarious that in this thread liberals are trying to justify calling America no better than nazi germany in the 50's, when in another thread they railed against Palin for not calling clinic bombers terrorist. Worse, it's out of an attempt to exonerate one of Obama's comments.

This is the single dumbest attempt at moral equivalence I've ever seen on this forum.

America wasn't even REMOTELY similar to Nazi germany. Are you guys really THIS IDIOTIC? I'm arguing that America wasn't like Nazi Germany and you call me a LIAR?

Yes, this is desperation. When liberals are beginning to say America was similar to Nazi Germany, you BET YOUR ASS I'M DESPERATE. If people can be brought to believe this, then I'm pretty fucking desperate.

Do you remember when the constitution was written blacks were 3/5 of a human being? Sound like one of the characteristics.

BTW - I'm not exonerationg Obamas comments, I agree with them.

:disgust:

Jesus now we are going back to 1787? This thread really delivers.
And why were Blacks considered 3/5ths of a human when the constitution was written?

Here is a hint, it wasnt defining them as humans, but as votes.

And this is the single dumbest example of being unable to understand the English language I've ever seen on this forum. Find me where Obama "called America no better than Nazi Germany in the 50's" (although you fail at even constructing sentences, I assume you mean America in the 1950s, rather than Nazi Germany in the 1950s). But in any case, I get your point...so where did Obama say that?

I didn't say the govt sponsered it. My point was blacks were rounded up and killed. I also asked you to look at this from the perspective of blacks at that time. I'll ask it again, why wouldn't blacks think they were living in a facist country while dealing with govt sponsered segregation, lynchings, and being treated as second class citizens?

Blacks were rounded up and killed by retarded white-supremacist groups like the KKK. They were NOT killed in the millions, NOT killed by the government, and NOT treated like Nazi Germany treated the Jews. They were not targeted by the government in a genocidal attempt at complete extermination. That's what made the nazis the fucking nazis.

So again from the point of view of blacks at that time whats the problem, not enough killed for you? So I guess because it wasn't 6 million it doesn't matter. You still refuse to answer my question.

Did you ever read a history book? Ever heard of lynching?

Did YOU ever read in any history book about mass, government-sanctioned lynchings of blacks? Where the F are you pulling this from?

Retarded white-supremacist groups? Now I know you don't know what you're talking about. The racism was systemic and it created a generalized fear amongst African-Americans. The law was in on it as well as seen from the thousands of "Jim Crow" laws from 1865-1960. Segregation was real and vicious at the time.

Seriously, you don't know what it's like to be a minority living under these laws and the systemic racism of the two eras so stop harping about it. And again, the two eras were not equal but they were similar.

Am I the only sane person left on earth?

Segregation was real. Racial tension was real.

Mass genocide was in Nazi Germany, not America. If anyone can't tell the difference, nothing I can say will convince you.

Clinton had all kinds of character issues and they popped up through out his Presidency.

Oh, I see what you did there! Excellent!

I am sure if you did a poll asking Americans if they'd trade last 8 years for 8 more years of Clinton running the country, it would not even be close, even if there were no clean cigars left in DC.

Clinton's 8 years set us up perfectly for the last 8 years. I don't fucking want either one.
