Obama has raised nearly half his money through small donations with aggressive solicitation programs targeting e-mail, social media and cellphone texting services. Last month’s fundraising also included the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., and a notable bump in the polls for the president in subsequent weeks.

The Obama campaign said Saturday that out of 1.83 million individual donors in September, nearly 570,000 had never given before in 2012 or 2008.

Flush with so much campaign money, I wonder if President O will run a 30 minute campaign ad like he did in '08.

hell yeah I am sent some of that billion to obama.. I was able to claim 4 kids in Mexico on my tax returns and got a lot of EIC, Got an $8000 credit on my new house, then I was able to reduce the principal on my house from $300,000 to $200,000 thanks to HARP, I am saving $40 a month on my cell phone bill, I bought a $60,000 volt for $30,000and got $8000 credit. Plus the solar energy company I work for was swimming in red, but now we get a federal loan and my job is secure.

I am freaking swimming in money.

Thank you Obama!

I've donated 3 times to his campaign this season. The most recent was the day after he bombed the debate.

Once it looks like the winner of the election is known, contributions are more likely to start flowing to one candidate and stop flowing to the other (even if the winning candidate doesn't need them as much). People are hoping to buy goodwill from the guy who is gonna be president, basically. That's one of the reasons that Obama received so much money from Wall Street in 2008. No one expected McCain to win, so why give him money?

Polls were looking really good for Obama in September in the swing states. I wouldn't be too surprised if Romney will later have been found to have gotten a bit of a boost after the debate, though it may be short-lived if it is widely perceived that the jobs numbers will help Obama contain the damage.

and yet the left always crys about money in campaigns.

Money buying influence in politics is something everyone should complain about, imo. Campaign contributions are a very common way of buying that influence. And make no mistake, the money buys influence with both parties.

^ This. I wish we would change campaign financing. However, it is beyond stupid to not expect the other side to partake in the current rule set and just hand over elections.

Does anyone else think that campaign fundraising money might be a bit better spent on actually running your country?

This is a joke for what we spend on the military. Think how much it cost to fly a president around with all his staff and security?

It's just the tip of the ice burg. You really don't want to know what money gets wasted on ... it's pretty sickening. Must be nice to be the 1%!

What's sad is there are so many out there that think and act exactly like that.

But but but... I'd been reading for years how it's the evil right wingers that influence politics with their evil money, the poor leftist/socialist/democrats are the victims. Now you're telling me obummer has raised more money than any politician in history?? That can't be right, surely another right wing conspiracy lie. ;)

Romney's money generally come from people in the US, obummer gets his money from his marxist pals in China.
