Apparently, on Obama?s released tax records, he discloses income from speaking fees. The problem? Accepting payment for speaking fees when you?re a legislator is against Illinois state law

Apparently, as an Illinois state legislator through 2004, Barack was prohibited from taking honoraria for speaking under the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act

But what about Barack Obama?s 2000 and 2002 tax returns?

2000: On his 2000 Schedule C-EZ, Barack reported that he received $16,500 as a ?Foundation director/Educational speaker.?

2001: On his 2001 Schedule C-EZ, Barack reported $98,158 from a Chicago law firm, Miner, Barnhill, for ?Legal services/attorney? (and nothing for speaking)

2002: On his 2002 Schedule C, Barack reported $34,491 for ?LEGAL SERVCES / SPEAKING FEES.?

These ?speaking fees? are in addition to the amounts that Barack was paid as an employee, a lecturer at the University of Chicago, reported on the first page of his 1040s.

That?s not change we can believe in

Just to sum up, the media can find Joe the Plumber?s tax woes within 24 hours of his having dared to question The One?s narrative, but they can?t find a clear ethical violation in the released records of a man who has been campaigning for President for two years now

Another truth-telling moment brought to you by our fair and objective news media

I wonder if/when the media will give him the Palin treatment. I'm guessing not, though.

Before reading your post, I read this comment. What is the Palin treatment? I believe Palin was investigated by State officials, not the media.

Doesn't that section pertain to lobbying and stuff like that? This is the impression I get when reading it, but I don't speak lawyer, so.. :p

Link to the law for those who are interested:

http://www.ilga.gov/legislatio...overnmental+Ethics+Act.

I mean if you just stop and think about it for a minute, it doesn't make any sense. Why would a state ethics law prevent senators from speaking at a local university, for example, and receiving compensation for it?

Apparently the State of Illinois didn't think this was an ethics violation so why should we care?

Good, we need a tough and pragmatic player as President, not some Goodie Two Shoes. A little Mafia Don comes in handy in protecting people.

Hey maybe he can talk to the press and claim he's thankful to have been cleared from any hint of wrongdoing just like Palin. :p

Conflict of interest I presume. A similar law exists on the federal level.

Just ask Senate Democrats who went after Tom Coburn for providing free medical care.

Has anyone bothered to read the law in question? They allow for outside services to be performed and even acknowledge that legislative duties are part time. Obama was at the University of Chicago until 2004 as a member of the Law School faculty as a Senior Lecturer.

The appearance/speech section clearly refers to taking part in such activities while in the capacity of state legislator, not while taking part in activities with another employer.

...And this would be why the media has given this no attention. If this had any weight, Clinton would have screamed it from the hills in May.

What is your response supposed to mean?
That it's from someones BLOG. Its not news. It could be from a 9 year old's delusion.
It shows incredibly poor lack of judgement for Winnar111 not to amend his thread title to indicate its someones OPINION and may be entirely made up.
winnar111 got pwned and now won't own up to it.

BTW, do you edit *your* titles to denote opinion pieces?

Yet another self pwnage thread. How many of these have there been?

Hint guys: The media has scoured Obama up and down for at least the last year. If you find yourself asking 'why hasn't the media reported on this'? there's probably a good reason, and you could save yourself some embarrassment.

Obama files a using EZ form? Oh my - that's like the form college kids use for summer work. Great point about Joe the plumber's taxes being checked by the Stalinists but BO gets (another) free pass.

Try reading the rest of the thread, dummy. You might learn something.

I know it's scary, but give it a shot.

Schedule C-EZ, not Form 1040-EZ, silly.
