Romney should release his tax returns if Obama releases his Columbia University records.

"Here’s my gut belief: Obama got a leg up by being admitted to both Occidental and Columbia as a foreign exchange student. He was raised as a young boy in Indonesia. But did his mother ever change him back to a U.S. citizen? When he returned to live with his grandparents in Hawaii or as he neared college-age preparing to apply to schools, did he ever change his citizenship back? I’m betting not.

If you could unseal Obama’s Columbia University records I believe you’d find that:
A) He rarely ever attended class.
B) His grades were not those typical of what we understand it takes to get into Harvard Law School.
C) He attended Columbia as a foreign exchange student.
D) He paid little for either undergraduate college or Harvard Law School because of foreign aid and scholarships given to a poor foreign students like this kid Barry Soetoro from Indonesia."

This is a stupid argument we've had in other threads.

Romney's tax returns could tell us something of interest regarding his business dealings and finances, which he's made a central part of his campaign.

Obama's school records don't mean anything, because even if they had dark and twisted secrets, who gives a shit? He's been president for 3.5 years now. That's the only reasonable information from which to decide whether to re-elect him or not. Do you think he did a good job? Vote for him. If not, don't.
 
There's also the fact that Presidents rarely release their college transcripts because it doesn't matter. Romney has released the fewest complete tax returns of any candidate in decades.

One problem with the bolded assumption:

"Parents cannot renounce U.S. citizenship on behalf of their minor children. Before an oath of renunciation will be administered under Section 349(a)(5) of the INA, a person under the age of eighteen must convince a U.S. diplomatic or consular officer that he/she fully understands the nature and consequences of the oath of renunciation, is not subject to duress or undue influence, and is voluntarily seeking to renounce his/her U.S. citizenship."

Unless you have evidence that Barack Obama personally and formally renounced his United States citizenship, any speculation that his parents may have done so to get him into Indonesian schools holds no water than any other aspect of Birther dogma.

A) I have never seen college records that reflected attendance, which is strictly optional. I don't recall attendance being taken in a single class when I was in college or grad school.
B) Perhaps (though I tend to doubt it based on his service as EIC of the Harvard Law Review). So what?
C) This is absurd. President Obama was undeniably living in Hawaii during high school, hence the fact that wingnut conservatives have made much hay about the comments in his HS yearbook. I take it the redoubtable Mr. Root means foreign student, not foreign-exchange student, but in any case it seems improbable that he would have applied (or could have qualified) as a foreign student when he had been living in the US for many years.
D) That wouldn't seem to make any sense (see C), and I don't know that the schools would have retained his financial aid documentation anyway.

None of this, even if Mr. Root's speculation were correct, would have any apparent relevance to President Obama's fitness to serve.

The only valid comparison would be if Obama refused to release his tax records.

He has already done that.

Obama is about average when it comes to executive orders, and considering he inherited 2 wars and a failing banking system, I'm surprised its not substancially higher.

That was at the other school. You can't do do well at Columbia if you're deep into drugs. The school is very very tough. Columbia, Yale and I think Princeton are tough schools.
 
In an election that's shaping up to be largely about what income tax rates are considered "fair", the tax paying history of the two candidates is obviously of interest.

If the election was about diploma mills being out of control or something along those lines maybe it'd be of more importance to see each candidate's grades. It isn't, though.

Besides Obama has already released 12 yrs of tax returns and BC.

Romney on the other hand with his 1yr of returns has released relatively squat.

When Romney lives up to his fathers standards with tax returns and releases his college records, then we'll talk.
