Lets pull all of our military out as well. From all over the world... and while we are at it no more damn foreign aid to anybody.

Next time there is a natural disaster let Russia F-ING take care of it.

I agree to not playing in Russia?s backyard if they agree not to play in ours.

None of this would be necessary if Russia was not paranoid, but since they are we need to address that reality and I agree with not poking them in the eye over this matter. No need to have knee-jerk reactions.

Except, there's still gonna be missile defense.

CNN: Obama scraps Bush-era missile defense for new plan

The United States is dropping plans for a controversial missile defense shield and replacing it with a "new missile defense architecture in Europe," President Obama said Thursday.

The new system "will provide capabilities sooner, build on proven systems and offer greater defenses against the threat of missile attack than the 2007 European missile defense program" proposed by former President George W. Bush, Obama said.

Obama did not go into details about the new plan but said it had received the unanimous support of U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Obama said the change of gears was based on an "updated intelligence assessment" about Iran's ability to hit Europe with missiles.

The Islamic republic's "short- and medium-range" missiles pose the most current threat, he said, and "this new ballistic missile defense will best address" that threat.

EDIT: Might wanna edit the title to provide the accurate picture.

There is no need for a military stand around the world, we have our own government that is internally destroying this nation....something no enemy/terrorist can EVER accomplish.

I saw this coming a mile away....

Heh so he is scrapping Bush's missile defense and erecting a new missile defense built upon proven bush technology.

I am actually happy he is going to continue to work on missile defense. It is just funny how this administration has taken Bush's programs, claimed to scrap them, then erected the same programs under Obama's name and we are supposed to be impressed.

Exactly. Many of the headlines I've seen about this topic have been misleading. From the details I've read, he is scrapping only the plans for long-range missile defense, but keeping short and medium range.

russian posturing on this was ridiculous. 12 interceptor missiles could not possibly to anything against their massive arsenal.

Especially when you factor in Bush tried to include them in the shield and they refused. So they refuse and then complain?

They aren't really the same programs at all. Obama has been fairly opaque on this whole issue so it's sort of tough to see exactly where he stands, but short and medium range BMD has been something that has been a US priority for a long time. The controversy over BMD was from Bush's large increase in fiscal and political support for a national missile defense (which must by definition be long range).

Short and medium range defense is fiscally and technologically feasible. Long range BMD is not. Scrapping the one that doesn't work and keeping the others most certainly isn't having the same programs under a different president. Of course since Obama hasn't really given clear direction on BMD, it's hard to tell what he's looking to do.

Good. It was too expensive, and completely unreliable in favorable conditions test.

Obama Administration has mandated Turkey to spend 8 billion on patriot missilles. That makes the eastern europe missile defense against Iran obsolete.
