Maybe in 2012 or 2016. It's way to early in 2008--that's where Edwards fell. However, he could pull off 2012 if a govenor who was in office for a few years got to play president.

Do you know his stances on all of the issues? Or are you just caught up in the 'Obama is God!' hype?

I think the guy has the charisma to be a great candidate but I really know nothing about him.

Yup. How many non-white non-protestant or non-male presidents have we EVER had?

Yeah, it's not going to happen.

Even if the Republicans nominate a black man, they'll loose all the Southern states + plus all the liberal states.

I am sorry in that I have to agree here. In our 200 year history we have had.......

non-white presidents = 0
non-protestant presidents = 1 ( JFK who was later killed )
non-male presidents = 0

all of the above put together = 0

The first step in making something happen, is actually believing it can. i think its just a matter of time before this happens. Sooner or later the minorities and oppressed will outnumber the white protestants and when that happens there may be more than just a semblance of a truly representative democracy. Right now what we have is a elitist two party system run by the wealthy and the corporations.

lets take bets on how long it takes for some sheep to come yelling
"conspiracy theorist" or
" wheres your tin foil hat"
or something similar.

Its a fact people, but people are too complacent and busy with their daily lives that they dont care. Maybe if the draft is reinstated, itll light some fire under people a$$es.

Now, what IF Republicans pick Powell and Dems counters by picking Obama?

Then I guess the country will be forced to have a black president.

Cleveland has a good point, we really don't know much about Obama right now. He's got 4-8 years in my book to prove himself in my book. I'll be watching him closely, as I think he is one of our nation's brightest hopes in bringing us together.

Soft on Crime and is For partial birth abortions...no thanks. In one state vote he was the ONLY person to vote in favor of keeping an early parole program for sex offenders I believe the final vote tally was 55 - 1

Here are some writeups in "The American Spectator" about him :

Article 1

Article 2

No, it'd be a prime time for a 3rd party candidate to gain substantial votes and actually win a few EC votes, perhaps a more attractive "Ross Perot" could make some ground. (obviously they'd have to be rich in order to campaign)
