i don't eat oatmeal very often, but i want to given the health benefits. however, when i have it in the morning, i'm pretty gassy all day. is this a temporary side effect as my body is getting used of the food? i'd like to make this part of my morning ritual, but i'm worried about feeling bloated all day at work.

you will be changing your body chemistry as you eat more healthy.

give it some time to adjust.

if after a year you're still cutting cheese like crazy, consult with your doctor, a 5th gland may have grown in your body ;)

a year? i was hoping the adjustment would be shorter than that. would drinking lots of water help ease the gas?

negative...contrary to what others say, drinking a lot of water daily is not good for you. you should only drink enough to replace what you pass out.

Raisin Bran is nasty. Eat Honey Bunches of Oat w/ Almonds instead.

It is the fiber being digested by gut flora. Maybe eat yogurt + oatmeal. Problem solved.

Me too. I LOVE good oatmeal...(not the packaged instant crap the kiddies eat, but old-fashioned oats...or steel cut)

However, it gives me COPIOUS amounts of gas. Not only can I clear a room...I can clear most national parks.

Shredded wheat gives me the toots, but I still love it. I just need to take a walk around noontime.

For me it's not oatmeal, but Fiber One bars that give me the most trouble. I could dam near use the excess gas to propel myself down the hallway in my rolling chair.

anyone else experience this?

You have a flatulence fetish?

The oatmeal fiber is probably pushing out gas that other junk in your system is producing. You need to modify the rest if your eating habits as well.

Oatmeal is up there with beans for gas making ability.

Your body does adjust a bit, but you'll still get a lot of gas from high fiber foods. That's just the way it is because fiber is mostly indigestible.
