This is a map of murders in Oakland. Alameda and Piedmont are not Oakland hence any murders are not shown. Of course - there aren't many in Alameda and Piedmont but you can't draw that conclusion from the map.

Alameda had 2 murders in 2007 - 1 was a 15 yo girl killed on halloween by a bunch of Oakland youths in a park about 6 blocks from where I live, the other was a domestic.

With exception of the populated areas, it looks like a pretty safe city.

So, if you live in a van down by the river, you're good to go!

And there is some lovely artwork to admire in the swamp by the Bay, too.

No, because you've then populated that area. :D

Here's a cool grass-roots site for those who aren't willing to totally give up on Oakland.

... I mean, interesting map.

We can just check local animal control for all the dead kittens that turned up.

Now why is the hell did it take TWO people asking the same stupid question and dozens of posts after that for SOMEONE to finally point this obvious fact out???

Hey, if you zoom way out you'll see that murders only happen in Oakland and not the rest of the country!!!

I used to work in Emeryville and got off at the MacArthur BART station every day. From the platform there you can see one of the bad areas on that map. No chance you'd ever catch me walking around there! The area around MacArthur bart isn't great either, but I was always there during the day when it was super busy. Sometimes you'd see some odd stuff riding the Emery-go-round though, like idiots doing sideshow crap like donuts in the middle of intersections.

Side note, Pixar is near there also.
