As for oak being more durable, I wouldn't worry about it unless you and ur SO weigh over 500lbs each and like rowdy sex.

Resale value on furniture kind of sucks though. He's better off keeping the bed for his kids.

Oak is a much harder wood and has a much stronger graining pattern. It is also much heavier because it is so dense. It doesn't ding or knick as easily and will be much more sturdy.

Personally, I'd go with oak.

Hhaa. Well, here's some actual input. SO far the top runner for me (at least through online searching) are these two places. Here are links if you wanna take a look. Not as many drawers as yours, but I think they look a little cleaner.

You can damage pine far easier then oak, which is stronger.

I like the look of pine better than oak. I even like the dings and scratches it gets. People pay extra too get that distressed antiqued look with pine.

Spend 2-3x whatever you spend on the frame, on the Matress. The matress is more important than the frame.
