O/C Up and FPS in UT go down?!?!?!?

Greetings,

I just installed my new video card and been playing with the settings =) It seems the more I try to o/c the card, the lower the FPS....Here are the results:

Default settings: 333 memory/200 core 46.35 FPS

370 memory/230 core 45.20 FPS

Now I am pissed, so I slide the bar to the extreme settings of 380 memory/240 core and get a whopping 45.5 FPS

I have UT running in 800x600 (turned the res. up and saw about the same results)..all the settings on high, 3d sounds, etc, etc...just like I was playing...and using the flyby by hitting tilda and typing timedemo 1

Am I doing something wrong, or do I have some settings incorrect? I have the newest driver for the card of the Elsa site, the 4in1, agp from via, etc, etc...haven't flashed the Abit bios, nor the Gladiac bios, but should see a negative effect when I turn the power up, right? =)

Try something in the high resolution, like 1280x1024 and 1600x1200, you'll see the difference. Usually overclocking results slightly slower frame rates in low res. Also, UT isnt a very accurate benchmark, Q3 is better and more accurate(no! not saying its a better game cause I love UT).

Do you have the latest patch for UT, they have had some problems with UT working well with D3D... Are you using D3D? Instead of turning everything on, you might want to tweak it a bit... did you do anything in your '~' + 'preferneces' menu ? Is you AA on? My Prophet drivers were defaulted with a low level AA on...

Just a few ideas..

I tried it with no AA on, then turned it up to max...still not a noticable difference...It should be off for running benchmarks, correct?

Blade_47, nope, VSync is not disbaled...If I do disable it, it gives me an option to prerender a certain number of frames....Should I have it disabled?

I seen some people post average FPS in the 70's +, and don't think a few settings will get me anywhere close...I could get the latest bios for my ABIT and Gladiac and flash them, but even that won't add 20-30 FPS, I am sure =)

When that happens it usually indicates that the processor is holding you back...but with an Athlon 750 I guess that's not really the problem for you....

When vsync is enabled you're limited by your monitor's refresh rate and not the rest of your system. It should always be disabled when running benchmarks. This could easily add more than 20-40fps.

I don't know what the prerendering frame deal is though (I've never run the benchmark on the game you are using). Maybe someone else can clear that up for you.

Thanks for the info...I disabled VSync, but not much improvment; the maximum FPS did go up to a whopping 91.27, but the average still stayed @ 49 =( ...going to download 3DMark2000 and start with default settings and play around till I can optimize all my settings....the flyby in UT is getting old =)

Also, seems that during the ship's flyby, or when the the lights are on the screen is when the ave. FPS drops to under 30....
