O/C unstable w/USB wireless adaptor

My 2.8E is stable (as far as I pushed it w/Sandra Burn in) at 3.5. I set added a USB wireless adaptor to D/L MBM and other testing programs. Running Sandra burn in again the system reboots. Remove the USB adaptor and all is good.

Any ideas?
 
sandra burn in is a joke ~ run something a bit more serious.

as ive said many times before....
the prescott runs so hot and consumes so much power that strange things will happen when it comes to stability.

I agree on both points.

I am looking at this as a challenge, and figure I may learn somethings for the effort.
 
hints:

USB is 100% cpu dependant. (thats why USB suxors for OCers/gamers)
stability testing w/o using the vid card (gaming) is a waste of time for gamers! (HEAT!)

try playing NFS underground, Serious Sam, or FarCry as a stability test.

how far can you go with the USB garb running?

Go spend a bit more money, and this time buy a powered usb hub, like the one I bought at Wal-Mart for under $30 (and it's usb 2.0).

I seriously don't know. I dropped from 253 FSB to 240 FSB and it wasn't stable. Then started looking for reasons. I an not sure it would be stable at stock.

I'll need to set up a connection eventually but can look for other options. I have Far Cry so I'll load and play with that this weekend.

I am convinced that the Prescott is a power hog and the heat proves it. It O/Cs easily at stock voltages but stresses the rest of the system. In the end, the Northwood is a better processor, at least currently IMO.

But I'll probably upgrage to a 'G' pci adaptor when the time comes.

Your right on.

For a baseline, I'm running prime95 at stock.

My question is, how long do you need to run to feel comfortable.
