I normally don't o/c my video cards but with money being tight(not able to upgrade) and newer games(Fear,Quake 4,CODII,ect) coming out I am thinking about o/cing it if it will make any difference in these newer games. I plan on upgrading come Jan/Feb but until then I am stuck with this 6600GT.

BTW I know it varies by card on how one o/c's but what is the common o/c that these things can do?

It varies a lot. Just get coolbits and bump it up and keep testing it till you get artifacts. then bump it down around 10mhz for core and mem, and do a heavy/long test to see if thats stable.

OCing any video card isnt worth it imo. But anyways, I dont think a 6600gt oc'd is going to make that big of a difference. Its too bottlenecked. All I could suggest is saving up money and just play with low resolutions with low details for now.

Why Coolbits? I can o/c my 6600GT from the Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> 6600GT -> Clock Frequency Settings Panel

I use RivaTuner. I have the same card. On stock cooling I got about 560/1170 or so. On my Zalman VF-700CU however, I can get either 590/1220, or 600/1210.

Hi there I've played FEAR and found the limitations of this card, have you noticed any visible improvment once you've OC'd your card ?

Don't know if that was meant for Crescent13 or me. But I decided to not o/c. Fear just needs a high end video card to turn everything on(or most). I get smooth gameplay at 1024x768 with about everything max other than texture. I also turned off shadows altogether as that helped alot alone and I don't need it.
