My new rig is:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Processor (Venice) 1.8 GHz
DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR
XFX GeForce 6600 GT PCI Express 128MB
Enermax EG565P-VE FMA 535W Power Supply
OCZ 2x512MB; Model #: OCZ400512WV3
6/23 BIOS

I am using the above guide to o/c this system. Before updating to the latest BIOS, I was not able to get above 260 FSB/HTT (previous post). With the latest 6/23 BIOS, using a 5.5x multiplier, I am can get the FSB/HTT up to 328 (3x multiplier). Cool! The CPU at that point is still running at 1.8 GHz on 1.45V. With a 1/2 memory divider, the memory is at 164. I might be able to go higher; I just have not tried it.

The CPU (for some reason) will not go above 2.4 GHz, no matter what voltage I throw at it. It sticks at 2.32 GHz. Since the FSB/HTT is less than 300 (with a 3x multiplier), that cannot be the problem. I already established that it was good to 328. With a 1/2 memory divider, the memory is at 150 (DDR300) . By default, its limit is 200 (DDR400). So that cannot be the problem.

Or is it...

Bumping up the memory voltage to 2.9V, and I am running at 2.4GHz. Its stability is yet to be determined. I am running Prime95 right now. But I have never gotten this far before.

It just goes to show that even when you think that you are taking a component out of the equation, you might still need to tweak it. In my case, that means the memory.

2.3GHz, 8x multiplier, 290 FSB/HTT speed, 1.45V for CPU, 2.6V for memory.
2.4GHz, 8x multiplier, 300 FSB/HTT speed, 1.45V for CPU, 2.9V for memory.
2.5GHz, 8x multiplier, 313 FSB/HTT speed, 1.45V for CPU, 2.9V for memory.
2.6GHz, 8x multiplier, 325 FSB/HTT speed, 1.45V for CPU, 2.9V for memory.
2.7GHz, 8x multiplier, 338 FSB/HTT speed, 1.55V for CPU, 2.9V for memory.
2.8GHz, 8x multiplier, 350 FSB/HTT speed, 1.63V for CPU, 3.2V for memory. Stable in Windows but fails Prime95.
2.8GHz, 9x multiplier, 311 FSB/HTT speed, 1.63V for CPU, 3.2V for memory. Stable in Windows but fails Prime95.
