So I did a little mod for my case, but I also want to mount up a side fan but before I go buying one I'd like some suggestions for a fan that will fit with a hyper 212 plus mounted up on the cpu. Preferably with blue leds just to keep the whole blue/white/black theme I got going on.
Anyway got bored and turned the NZXT Phantom case I have into a dual front intake case.
I only use one disc drive and my HDDs are on the 3.5inch bay at the bottom so I had a big open space under my lone disc drive. I thought it would be nice if it had to option to put a fan on there to blow cold air directly at the cpu, but it didn't it only has the one intake fan at the bottom of the unit which blows limited air into the hard drive bay at the bottom. which is already getting air blown in from lower two side panel fans. I noticed that the bottom intake fan would blow air into the 3.5inch bays but it was mostly blocked off as you can see in this pic(not mine, taken from the internet):
I noticed most of the air was trapped in between the space of the front panel chassis and the case itself, and it traveled upwards when it couldn't go in thru the 3.5inch bay. So I took a spare 120mm plastic cage I had from an older case and fit it into the space below the disc drive so it would house another 120mm fan. It fit PERFECTLY.
I kept the removable disc drive grills on there so they would act as a filter. It reduces air flow slightly but still moves in a lot of cold air inside. When the front panel door is closed, it does reduce air flow considerably, however it draws the air trapped in between the front panel chassis and the case, up and into the case itself.
Looks pretty neat too.
