I might have missed something but this is the first mid-tower case I've seen without any optical drive support.

Normally I'm not really a fan of NZXT styling but I kinda like this one. Could have done without the big NZXT logo in the sidewindow though.

Release date is 24 feb. What do you think?

At a lunch with fellow "seniors" last month, somebody mentioned that optical drives "weren't necessary" anymore because of the way people now purchase movies. I am weary of keeping up with these developments, but it would seem we still need to install software, or there are various uses of optical drives and discs.

The case is nice by other standards if you are indifferent to that one limitation. I suppose you could use an external optical drive with USB connection as necessary.

I don't buy in to "cloud" services for backup and storage. And that's a bit strange, because the Snowden affair barely caused me to blink: I assumed you don't have privacy at least internationally in telephone, e-mail etc. going back to the mid-90s. Which -- was why I don't use those internet backup services.

But . . . we're just talking about an NZXT case here, so . . .

Dmitry at Hardware Canucks did a review of the H440. It's located on You Tube. It seems to be a very nice case, but cooling could be better. I'd buy one if I had a use, but my Phanteks Enthoo Primo and NZXT P630 are serving nicely.

It is a pretty good looking case, especially for NZXT. Although, I'm a little confused by the fact that they would remove the optical drive bay, and in exchange they just waste a bunch of space with the HD brackets. I understand that they wanted to help with airflow, but they could have at least put more slots for the HD brackets so you could choose where you wanted to mount them instead of having them all like 2-3" apart.

YUMI works great for installing Windows XP to Windows 8.


Since I have a NAS over a gigabit network and an external optical drive, I have already decided to omit optical drives from future builds.

Just because it lacks a 5.25" bay doesn't mean you can't have an optical drive as part of your system. Just purchase an external one.

That doesn't really surprise me, I guess it's a drawback from having the nice clean front.

That looks nice but ofcourse there is also a Microsoft usb tool which works for Vista and later, so no don't need odd for os. I do still occasionally rip cd's though or create compilation cd's for car/friends (cheaper to give cd's away than usb sticks).

Could use an external cd-burner but then I'm thinking might as well have it neatly tucked away in my case, ready for action.

I wish there were more videos like this. Sometimes I look at cases and wonder what the designer was thinking (both good and bad).

Honestly, the more I look at this case the more I like it. I just got got rid of my second Silverstone Raven (I had both the RV01 and RV02-E), and after moving my rig back into an older Lian Li case I'm sort of ready for something easier to work with. I was (still am) considering moving over to mini-ITX, but I think ATX still probably meets my needs the best. Right now I'm torn between the H440 and the Corsair Air 540.
