He brings up a valid point that if you want to minimize blown out highlights, shutter lag or picture noise, you'd better get a DSLR. If you're spending $300 on a compact camera, you're really just paying for gimmick features like touch screen and cheesy effects, not necessarily a better image quality than a $150 camera would provide. Although I would give the Fuji F70 a second look just because they do provide some semblance of features geared toward better image quality.

My P+S camera is a cheap ~$100 Canon. It takes fairly decent photos. There's no need to spend more money than that. You're paying for features that you'll (likely) never use.
