Ok, the Nyquil Gel Caps don't contain alcohol, the liquid is 20 proof. So, why is it there in the liquid....or conversely, why is it not there in the pills?

No it isn't.

But i think the alcohol is used to help with the absorption.

yeah baby, Nyquil.

I normally add my own shot of alcohol to it, for that extra kick.

Nyquil, Redbull, Vodka, and Coffee... Pour them all together and they all cancel out and disappear.

Actually, alcohol will keep the other ingredients fresh, that is why it's in there... same thing with liquid vitamin supplements...

Well, that and the fact that if you drink a whole bottles you can consider yourself "wasted".

DON'T drink a whole bottle if it has Acetaminophen in it, but if it has only Dextromethorphan HBr 7.5 mg then you're okay ;)

The alcohol in NyQuil, according to Proctor and Gamble, is used to keep the three active ingredients in a solution. They are ingredients that normally would not mix, and so without the alcohol the liquid would not remain stable.
