About a dozen high-tech detectors by various manufacturers ? some resembling handheld vacuum cleaners, others the size of fax machines ? will be positioned at subway entrances where officers conduct random bag searches, officials said Friday.

Couldn't they use detectors that are NOT explosive? Seems like it would be safer.

That got me thinking...

I wonder if *I* would set them off.
I've been wearing my carhart jacket for a few weeks now, since it's been cold out. And, since day 1, I've had half a dozen shotgun shells in the pockets, as well as 20 or 30 .22 bullets.
I've been to dozens upon dozens of places, with my pockets packed with ammunition. I'll have to avoid NYC :)
