An NYPD lieutenant was busted for groping a woman in California over the weekend — after the woman’s husband delivered a beat-down that sent him to the hospital, said sources.
Long Beach cops arrested Lt. Jonathan Simons, 35, of Brooklyn, on a sexual battery charge.
Simons is accused of pawing a woman who worked at a photo booth during a wedding reception Saturday at The Grand Long Beach, a luxurious event venue about an hour south of Los Angeles.
“She was working the photo booth when he apparently started groping her,” said Dan D’sa, vice president of The Grand Long Beach. “She went and told the DJ, who was also her husband, and he took exception.”
Someone called the Long Beach police, who responded to the venue’s Catalina Ballroom at about 11 p.m.
Arriving officers found Simons beaten and being held under “citizen’s arrest,” said Long Beach cops.
Asked if the vacationing lieutenant was drunk, D’sa said: “I would hope so!”
Simons was treated at a local hospital before he was taken into custody, Long Beach authorities said.
He was charged with sexual battery and released on $20,000 bond Monday, according to authorities.
Simons, a 13-year NYPD veteran, has been suspended without pay.
Before his suspension, he was assigned to the NYPD Personnel Bureau, which mainly oversees police recruitment, cop sources said.
Simons was snared in 2016 a wide-ranging FBI-NYPD probe into whether cops did favors for Hasidic businessmen in return for gifts.
He was accused of giving a special guided tour of the Upper East Side’s 19th precinct to Pinchas “Pinny” Braver, who was among men indicted in 2014 in an assault that left its victim blind in one eye.
Braver and the others accused in the attack were linked to the ultra-Orthodox Shomrim Security Patrol, authorities said at the time.
