He defends them as much as the next conservative here. I'm not sure why, but he decided to pick a fight with me over it in the thread about cop who shot his wife in bed. Didn't work out well for him.

Anyway, there are very few news stories that actually anger me, but this one does for real. When your police department is getting tips on how protest from the Westboro Baptist Church it's time to make a change.

That's because with few exceptions Moonbeam can only respond with "brain defect" or "self hate".

Yes. Conservatives have generally defended the police here but do not do that for other public services.

How is this hard to understand.

You are not going to find me defending the police here. Do your jobs or face the consequences. I remember Houston PD had a problem with their mayor way back in the 80's and chose to still do their job but protest on their time off. That is the way to handle things. What is going on here is not acceptable.

He made you look like a screaming, blathering 10 year old idiot.

And BTW, Moonbeam himself is an idiot.

So......

I encourage any and all to read every last word of that thread. Either your memory is shot, your reading comprehension is awful (most likely, considering what a fool you present yourself as), or you are lying.

That thread is a tombstone for CZoe and Moonbeams shit arguments. CZoe especially got trounced.

And rightly so, I tried to be reasonable and tone down the thread. They wouldn't leave me alone so I told them what's up.

This must be hard for liberals. Unions are the greatest thing since sliced bread and peanut butter until they do something they don't like.

Heh. So what does the Union want, anyway? Are they currently negotiating a contract or dealing with a disciplinary matter? What's their list of demands?

Shrug, they are doing exactly what I wish ALL police would do and that is act as peace officers, whose job it is to keep the peace. They aren't fucking with people who aren't fucking with the "peace". Good for them I say.

Just a little while ago they choked a guy to death for committing the "crime" of selling something he lawfully owned to someone else who was able to lawfully own said item. Even if it would have been a simple arrest, sure ain't keeping the peace in my book fucking with someone selling his own property to someone who could lawfully own and use said property.

It's called regulation. It is not legal to sell without a license, and paying sales tax - etc.

It's almost funny how the NYPD are pissed and their way of showing it is to stop harassing, ticketing, beating, arresting and killing people. Why? Because they want everyone to kiss their ass. Then they can get back to harassing, ticketing, beating, arresting and killing people.

I say let them keep "protesting", the citizens can use the break...lol!

Pretty shameful. They are unwillingly dragging the public's safety into their argument. It is disgusting behavior, but that is what we get from a lot of cops these days isn't it?

I don't want them leeching off the public and doing no work. I get that they were jackboot thugs before, but if we fire them all doesn't that fix the thug problem?

I really see no better solution. Whomever mentioned the airline controllers, that is exactly what should be done!
They aren't giving parking tickets and busting guys with weed. The former was found to be a minimal source of income nor are the police ignoring serious crimes.

Your Dear Ladies husband decided to ignore Federal law entirely regarding MJ in whole states and that's a President's prerogative to not do his mandated duty. Go figure.

The Atlantic article is interesting in that it looks at how we think of officers doing their jobs. Others complain about this and I do think they ought to go back to traditional duties but I'm not crazy about some of that. Evidently you like putting MJ violators in prison, because that's what you ask for. Get those jackbooted thugs on it!

The mayor should do what Reagan did with the airline traffic controllers and fire all of them. I'd like to see the rights response if he did that. I certainly haven't heard anyone on the right talking about "union thugs", but then again hypocrisy is their middle name.

The air traffic controllers were right and it never should have come to the point where a strike was necessary. Now there is a problem when ATC shuts down. That ends flight.

You get spotted with a joint in NYC and don't get arrested by Vader's jackbooted thugs. How does that make robbing a bank easier?

I think that there has to be some middle ground. If it were up to me they would all be fired and replaced. If the new ones aren't any better, we can always fire them again.

I think what Obama is doing with Marijuana is good for this country, there is no real reason why anybody should be in prison for drugs. Maybe jail at worst. I get that everybody is happy that the NYPD isn't beating and abusing the NY populace but what it to stop them all from just starting again?

And about the airline controllers: This is totally different and much worse. This is a group that has had every advantage possible given to them and in return they have provided oppression, corruption, and sometimes even murder. They have shown that they have no respect whatsoever for the law, the citizens of NYC, and most perplexing of all their own superiors. They aren't striking, they are just not working and that is totally different, and much worse, than what the ATCs were doing. Police in NY need to be taught a lesson, and that lesson is that if you totally ignore your job, beat people in the meantime, and then make a scene on multiple nationally televised funerals for their colleagues you will be fired. That is sickening and even you should see that.

What exactly is to stop all these fat, lazy cops who are apparently now doing nothing at all (arrest drop 95%!!! that's not all pot) from coming back and beating the people when they get bored, or when people start to get sick of them not doing their job? Its already starting now. There are people who actually do want those low level arrests. The other thing is these cops aren't just ignoring MJ they are ignoring all traffic violations (which encourages accidents) and pretty much all low level arrests. That includes shoplifting and a bunch of other stuff that I'm sure you don't "approve" of as much as pot.

How you can come in here and defend them is beyond me. On every other issue, you seem to be able to present a view that isn't totally tinged with bias and ridiculous. On this issue, you are terrible. The NYPD has gone way beyond anything else any other PD has done. They are babied and that is what needs to stop. If we don't fire them, their salaries need to be slashed, pensions need to disappear. That's all they are really care about anyway! They are fucking criminals and if you took away all the absurd benefits of being a cop (immunity, insanely high salaries for totally uneducated workers, crazy pensions, televised funerals, awards, roads named after them, memorials, etc....) they would quit in minutes. They don't give a fuck about the safety of NYC nor do they care about anything except 1)covering their own ass and 2)money.

If the people of NYC don't want cops arresting people for things like weed, maybe they ought to vote for different politicians who would repeal these laws. Complaining that the cops are not selectively enforcing some laws and ignoring others to the exact degree you prefer is stupid.

Did I get that summary correct?

NYPD traffic tickets and summonses for minor offenses have dropped off by a staggering 94 percent

This is not a work stoppage for the NYPD.

If the NYPD stopped working, they would not have been working 24 hour shifts for New Years Eve. There would be zero arrests. And, real crime would be running rampant. For the past few days (even on January 3rd), I've seen more cops out on patrol than ever before.

For those who are screaming bloody murder over the public's safety; your mouth frothing cop hate is showing - wipe yourself.

Also, now some of you WANT traffic tickets and summonses for minor offenses? These boards are pretty clear on how they avoid speeding tickets (radar, etc.) and how they lose their shit when a cop issues a summons (teh polease need ta fiaght teh REAL crime!! Wha, wha ah do?!), get your act together.

Good!

There are too many stupid crimes today. Too many laws that literally do nothing to protect citizens. Finally the pigs are starting to realize that their jobs are to help and serve the people, not have fun harming them. I hope this trend spreads to every other state. The only things that should be illegal are things that cause harm to others, whats the point of having laws against anything else?

IOW police should be the grown-ups in the room and ignore the stupid laws passed politicians (and in turn the voters who elect them) that people don't want to be subject to but also don't want to repeal.

I guess "minor offenses" has become the new taxes, something you want everyone else forced to follow to the letter but you personally get a break on.

I think your pro-cop bias is showing, not my so called "cop hate", great straw man tho.

Your anecdotal account of how many cops you "saw" aside, what other evidence is there that they are patrolling? All the news stories and statistics I've seen show that they are doing 6% of the job they used to do. What evidence do you have that there are more cops out than before? That sounds like made up bullshit.

You are totally wrong by the way about "crime running rampant". The NYPD are less to blame for the drop in crime in NY than the general economy and state of crime in the US. Crime is down all around. If the NYPD stopped working nobody would notice besides what they are noticing now: a huge drop in arrests. Cops don't magically prevent crime just by showing up, and since the cops aren't advertising that they aren't doing any work, criminals would have no idea (until the news pics it up). So no, you are wrong there.

The end of your post is just drivel. What does that even mean? I get it, you are butt buddies with a cop, that's cool but that doesn't mean I have to bend over too.
