NYPD adds Dodge Charger to its fleet.

What's the point of such a fast car when you can't even go that fast with all the traffic there? A better use for them would be for the highway patrol to chase down speeders.

Assuming the policies even allow for chases. Many departments are shifting to a no persuit policy because the public bitches so much about police chasing for minor offenses even though the risk isn't that high.

In a recent analysis by Michigan State Police, Chargers equipped with a V-8 engine had the quickest acceleration (6.52 seconds to 60 mph) and fastest lap time (150 mph) of any police vehicle tested.

I thought there was a state on the east coast that made a deal with a Porsche plant being built for some Porsche Interceptors....but I heard that a looong time ago. So I'm probably wrong.

Haha, I saw that this morning in the amNewYork and immediately thought of posting it here, but I forgot. I think it's pretty cool. I was hoping that at the very least they'd start getting some of the new-look Impalas, but this is much better. I mean just in terms of horsepower, the Impala and Crown Vic have between 200 and 220, IIRC, while the Charger has 340. Even the five V-6 cars will have 250, more than the current cars.
