So the other week while I was biking through NYC, my buddy pointed out The Cage to me. I was less than impressed. While I know it from such video games as "NBA Street" (boycott EA), it looked much more impressive in the game than in real life.

What's the deal with it anyways? Is it just where hotshots ballers go to show off?

Certain courts get reps as the places where the best players play. Once a court gets a rep everyone who thinks they're good or who wants to get good shows up to prove themselves. It's not about how big the court is or how nice the court looks, it's all about the level of competition. That's one of the streetball courts that gets the best level of players. You can't earn your name on the street without proving yourself on courts like that.

Streetball is a hard game. There's a court outside Yankee Stadium that draws some really good players. Especially on game days the best players show up because of the audience they can get from the baseball fans. Whenever I go to a Yankees game I stop and watch for a while, those guys are good. It's a REALLY tough game, street basketball is a lot different from the stuff played in gyms. It's fast, it's physical and the weak get killed. When you see college freshmen perform like veterans it's usually because they played a lot of street ball and got tough.
