NYC visit advice

I will be visiting NYC this July as my honeymoon. Neither of us have ever been there. My main question is hotel advice. Got recommendations on somewhere nice but reasonable price? I'd like it convenient to transportation (we won't have a car there) and under $1000 for a week. We're planning to visit the usual tourist stuff - Broadway, museums, etc.

Anything you'd consider a must-see that we wouldn't be likely to think of (ie don't say Statue of liberty or ground zero)?

what kind of restaurants do you like? I could give you a ton of great places.

You will probably want to stay in the midtown area for Hotels. I'll think about good places to stay.

As for visitings, its kinda hot in the city during July (its much nicer in like September/October) but if you are going to be here, I would suggest Central Park. I don't know if that is an obvious one but it is so nice. Other great places is just like neighberhoods. If you are from a very rural area, Times Square might overwhlem you but its still great. Oh and Grand Central. They re did it and it's really great for a quick stop. You can also grab a bite to eat at somewhere downstairs.

I personally can't stand the touristy things here but I guess that is because I live here. Union Square (14th street area) is nice and there are some good restaurants around there.

Definitely check out all kinds of restaurants in NYC.

Go to Joe's Shanghai in Chinatown, La Puglia's in Little Italy, Gray's Papaya Hot Dogs, Pho Bang Vietnamese restaurant in Chinatown or Upper West Side, Spark's steakhouse in midtown, etc.

Go to the museums during the day and go to some nice bars at night and get drunk.

Can't help you with the hotels since I've lived here most of my life and never stayed at one here.

Have fun.

I've live here too, but I've stayed in some hotels....The Westin's Essex House on Central Park South is very nice, prolly very expensive too (it was on my company's wallet, not mine)... That area will prolly run u well over $1000 bux for a week. If you've never seen the Madame Tussaud's wax museum in London, then you must see the one in Times Square...really cool. Shame you couldn't have see the towers while they were standing, now all you see is a big hole. damn shame.

I live on Staten Island, the forgotten borough haha. I stayed in Manhatten with some friends last year and we stayed at a Quality Inn on 46th between 5th and 6th avenues. Not a bad hotel, and very close to Times Square, and other attractions, such as Rockefellar Center. Oh yeah for something different to do, take the NBC Studio Tours. NBC is located in Rockefellar Center at 50st. They show you a lot of the history of the station, and take you into some of the studios, such as Saturday Night Live, the Rosie O'Donnell studio, and some others depending on what's available at the time. I'm assuming they still do these daily tours, but the times I had gone were before 9/11, even then security was tight getting in, but it was fun!

Mariot hotel next to Borough hall in brooklyn is a nice place to stay. It's brooklyn, so it wouldn't be too expensive. Yet, it's in the good area of brooklyn plus it's close to all major subway lines.

for all kinds of information...

www.citysearch.com --->click on New York City

I came to NYC just over a year ago and that website is my main tour guide. You should be able to find some hotels there.

Have fun!
