Damn, I remember when a carton of marlboro lites were $19.....

Meh...you're just a kid.

I remember paying $1.90/carton in the base commissary. IIRC, my neighbor made the drive to Travis AFB a while back, and they're about $40/carton nowadays.

And most if not all of them have a limit on the number of cartons you can bring across. As long as it isn't hundreds of cartons with the intent to distribute or sell nothing illegal is being done by purchasing cigarettes across state lines.

Except if the state has laws against importing cigs that aren't taxed by the receiving state, noted by that receiving state's tax stamp.

It's weird how ethical people seem to be here on some topics then the racism/piracy/sexist chatter breaks out an people want to buy those posters drinks for being so macho... I don't care either way, but I suggest removing sticks out of asses for things like this

Nik is making a point. I don't know if it's of anything more interesting than "That's illegal in some places!", though. Fortunately the $20 Chinatown bus is not high on the list of transport that gets searched.

Yes, afaik you're supposed to report to your home state the items you purchased out-of-state so you can be taxed on them. I don't know anyone who's done so, though.

But of course I plan to, on any of my out-of-state purchases. Avoiding vice taxes is wrong!

Not sure of the prices. Do recall hearing about a guy getting stopped on the interstate and getting caught with hundreds of cartons of ciggys from other states, that he was taking back to NY.

Meh. It's a simple law (pay taxes properly and don't avoid them) like this that gets abused by fucktards that drives enforcement of the law to ridiculous levels.

Basically, assholes ruin everything for everybody.

Lord ha' mercy, that's amazing.

Thanks kindly.

screw that. Just drive down to NC/VA, hit up J&R for a yearly supply of $20 CARTONS.

At least, I think that's still the price. Not sure...I don't smoke.

I was just pondering it. I would never actually avoid paying state or city taxes. Vice taxes are a wonderful thing and we need more of them.

not really.

the logic is well, stupid. Society deems this an "Evil," and we'd all be better off without it. So, to encourage less use, let's tax the fuck out of it! spend the revenue on education/medicaire/treatment programs whatever, and discourage use!

OK...so what happens when people do quit, the vice is eradicated, and you've suddenly lost this revenue stream that you depend on for some years?

Honestly, I really don't have a problem with vice taxes--I can support them on tobacco/booze/ and especially weed, to a certain degree, but the logic just isn't sound.

Especially when they decide to hit up a new "vice" that hits closer to home.

hell just this year, there was a proposed tax in CA for booze that would have added SIX DOLLARS to every six pack of beer. HOLY WHAT THE FUCK? it was a tax/amount on all alcohols. It would have literally crippled the extremely important wine industry here. What a fucking idiotic proposal.

Re: ordering cigarettes online.
(Sorry to my Seneca neighbors, i.e. part of the Seneca reservation is about 2-3 miles from my back yard)

Don't do it. Especially as a NY resident. NY is going after those taxes & is going to do everything it possibly can to get them. Subpoenaing records from the Senecas, getting records from credit card companies, etc. I've already heard reports of people receiving a bill from Albany for "you owe this for taxes you haven't paid on cigarettes you've purchased." (A lot of people around here drive to the reservation; I'm guessing they were found out via credit or debit card records. I've heard of people owing hundreds in back taxes.) Of course, the rumors of people receiving such bills is 2nd hand knowledge, so I'm slightly skeptical - but the people telling me this are generally pretty trustworthy.

If you drive out of state or to the reservation, pay CASH. aka no physical record. If you order online, there's a record of them being sent to your address.

Hey guys! I'd like to break the law, but I need some help. Any of you bros help? Thanks, fellow criminals!

Sometimes I drive down to Delaware for grain alcohol since it's unavailable for purchase in Pennsylvania liquor stores without a special permit... Do you have a problem with that? If so, how's the air up there?

Why are you assuming that I somehow have a personal problem with you doing so?

You pointed out the illegality of doing a cigarette run. Since you mentioned it I figured you had a problem.

its like $9.50 for 2 packs of premium cigs here in southern va. $8 if i drive 15 minutes to the border of carolina. a carton of premiums is like $32-$39. if they happen to have promotional cartons of the "$1-2 off" stuff u can snag a carton for like $20. not sure if they are supposed to do that though but they do.

Back in the 70's, I was an "extra driver" for Fiberform boats. Mostly went on "team runs." They had plants in Spokane, WA, where I lived, and one in Edenton, NC. I loved getting on those trips because cartons of smokes were dirt cheap compared to Washington prices.

I bought 2 packs of Marlboro "Special Blend" today for $3.98 each...normally $4.98 ea. I bitch and complain about Kahleeforneeya prices...I'd have to quit before I'd pay NYC prices...or go into the cigarette bootlegging business. :p

You started shit with me, remember? Do I need to quote you?

No, I remember what I said. Merely musing on the fact that you've never done anything "illegal" or unethical before. Must suck to lead a boring life.

Oh? How, pray tell, have you come across all knowledge of my entire life? How is it that you, being not-me, know what kind of life I lead?

You want to fling shit? Okay. I got beer and nothing to do tonight. It's on.

Calm down, bro. Clearly by judging others, you've not engaged in the activities which you condemn.
